You have to modify the pin so that you can install the axles and insert the c clips once the pinion is torqued to the carrier and you also have to modify the axle housing itself to fit the ring gear as it is larger than the hole its supposed to fit in. As far as tools, not much specialty stuff is required other than a dial indicator with a magnetic base, inch pound torque wrench with a dial for rotational torque and of course the tool to set your backlash and carrier bearing preload. You can build the adjusting tool yourself if you have access to a welder. Some people made it out to be rocket science to rebuild a chrysler 9.25 when i had a few questions but if you have some knowledge of how to set up a ring and pinion then youll be fine.

I have the Auburn and 4.56's. NO mod of the carrier necessary with that set up in an 03 diff. I do everything myself, except for the gears I paid the Gearcenter to do it, the guy had 18 years experience and with that it took 5.5 hours to do the rear. As I see it you are planning on re-gearing an OEM LSD, I wish you luck (not in a sarcastic way) just take your time and I bet you you will swear just trying to remove the pinion nut!

The ONLY downside to the 4.56 gears is when running smaller tires (like 285/70-17) on a longer high speed road trip. Around here the speed limit is 70 mph and running 80 mph is keeping up with the passing lane traffic. At that point the rpm is a little high, but still under 3,000. I doubt I would ever take more than a 300 mile one way road trip in the truck anymore unless I really needed to. At the 80 mph range, I can also feel a little of the driveshaft vibration as it's spinning much faster than with the 3.55s. However Im a little sensitive to driveshaft vibration after chasing driveshaft balancing for years in mud trucks.

With the winter 35s on, the rpm is noticeably lower.

Everywhere else but the highway at high speed, they are awesome.
