Re: the emissions recall calibration I had to get done on my 2015 RAM 2500 Cummins offering me $2k if I let them perform a check to make sure it was done correctly.
I’m really Leary giving them access to my RAM OBD…serious red flag for me.
Anyone heard of this?
It’s strictly voluntary, not mandatory.

Yep, I’d take that $2K without a second thought. It’s just 15-30 minutes running OBD diagnostics so they can verify that the recall you had done is doing what it’s supposed to for compliance.

I’m gonna call the phone and ask them if they make any changes or does my permission to do the test automatically give them permission to make whatever changes that they deem necessary

They say no, they’ll make no changes
Yeah, they’re just getting live data from consumer trucks to show the epa for post recall compliance. If they change anything, they open up for cheating again.
It’d be a good opportunity to talk to the Cummins tech to see what they look for. I’m guessing they’re looking at the behavior of the nox 2 sensor, since that’s the strategy that the recall changes.

I'd heard they r e t a r d your injection program to get the NOx exhaust down enough for the SCR.

Similar to their 1998 'problem' with the EPA. (Consent decree for control algorithm that detected stead speed over a certain length of time and advanced injection timing to recover power at the expense of more NOx in the exhaust - this was pre-aftertreatment days). The claim was EPA only meant to reduce NOx in exhaust in urban areas.

Oops.

If anywhere near factual, you'll use more fuel and lose power to reduce NOx god knows what infinitesimal amount.

Good deal, eh?

Well, I’ve noticed no difference in performance from before to after the recall, my wrench at the RAM Truck Dealership told me the only thing I’d notice was maybe a little more usage of DEF.
Right now the Truck runs absolutely freaking GREAT, there’s been no noticeable difference in performance at all…that’s why I’m leary of the inspection. If he doesn’t like the results will I get another letter from the State/DVM telling me to get it redone???
Obviously I DONT trust the government

Id be very surprised if the inspection agency to send ANYTHING to the DMV if its just a smog "test". Thats like going to Pep Boys to get something replaced under the hood, and an incidental oopsie made your emissions go out of spec. No, if you were in compliance at the time of the official smog test, you're in compliance until the next smog test. Doing stuff like that is bad for business as that is a great way to **** customers off.

Yep, we've all got it. I've gotten the letter 3-4 times and tossed every one of them. Do whatever you're comfortable with, but they're not touching my truck. Too many complaints that it hosed up folks emissions system.
Pretty sure your letters are asking you to get the recall , has nothing to do with what the OP is asking . He has already had the recall . Totally different thing . Sounds like a great offer to me for 30 minutes of his time . He's got the 4 year warranty , he's pretty much covered at this point .

I look at it like this , we've heard about a few problems ,there's been thousands of these trucks that have had this recall 67A .They have no clue to what we are even talking about having issues after having this recall , and merrily driving their trucks . I have read probably more on these forums having no issues with that recall , than having issues . Take it for what it's worth . As much great information as I have gotten on these forums , there is the other side of the coin ,and the misinformation . You just have to sift thru the nonsense .

I have heard your results a lot more than what problems could happen . I do know a guy , he got an SCR issues soon after ,was corrected under the warranty ,and all is good ,and he's got the 4 years , and no worries .

That sounds like what some Independent company sent out for

The 3.0 Eco-diesel ,
At first i thought that it would be done Locally, But NO,
they were not doing it locally, some place North of Los Angeles was going to do it.
Not only that, but they were no going to load it on a Car Hauler, they were going to send Drivers to my house & they were going to drive MY Vehicle approximately 200 each way.

I'll be damned if i am going to let some 18 year old, that is not a true professional driver, take my vehicle on a 400 mile drive
