Wen to have battery tested at local auto parts place where I bought battery almost 3 years and a month ago.
Tested bad, needed a new one.
Had a 3 year warranty on it, store said out of warranty BUT guy went and talk to manager, they replaced for free.
I was totally happy about that.

That behavior warrants a name drop and maybe other members might bring them their business.

I buy my batteries at Walmart, the current battery bought in May of 2019 is still going strong every day. Walmart uses name brand battery manufacturers. I know the day is coming but for now, so far, so good.

Had the opposite experience at AutoZone with a battery my mom bought. Can't remember the brand, just was cheap. It died in under 3 months, she couldn't find the receipt and they wouldn't go off the manufacturer date or even give her a discount. Ended up buying a new battery from Walmart like I told her to do in the first place.

AutoZone stores are not all the same. The store closest to me doesn't carry the same products that many of the other stores have.

Again, the same goes for your experience at a specific store. I would gamble that the store where the OP had their experience is likely more supportive of customers.

Feel free to name the location where you had a bad experience. TIA

I had a similar experience last fall with a battery ....but it was "just" at the end of it's 1-yr replacement. This was their TOTL premium battery. Only in this case I HAD the receipt (middle finger to the store! ..ha ha). Tested bad and they graciously gave a new one. Funny thing is when I originally bought that battery it was somewhat old right off the shelf. I don't remember now but I think it was like 6 months or maybe even more ...old. Secondly, the FIRST thing I do is charge them up (out of the vehicle) before installing. And this one took forever to charge up. I knew something was funny with it right there. My hunch is it had been sitting 'low' on their rack for a long time and was pre-sulfated when I bought it. I had considered returning it from the beginning. My bad for not doing so.

That battery was stillborn the day I bought it. For the whole year I had all sorts of starting and low battery issues. Battery would die overnight. I figured it was something else with the vehicle...a discharge (I had replaced cables and alt previously). Anyway, not one single issue since last fall. It was the first crappy battery I think I had ever gotten.

Now I check the mfgr date on the batteries at the store and look for the newest ones.

That happened to my sister-in-law with AutoZone. Once in a while, you need a break.

I usually have a good experience with Advance Auto. I went through three Optima batteries in less than a year, each one cheerfully replaced, after checking my charging system. After the third one I asked to see the manager and we had a very polite conversation about what my options were. He offered a lower line Die-Hard full warranty as exchange. I figured it couldn’t be any worse so I agreed. That was three years and 11 month ago. Everything still good, but I figure I’m getting close to borrowed time. Pretty sure I’ll opt for the same battery even though I’ll be paying. Never figured out why the “premium “ batteries failed, but it really doesn’t matter.

I used to work with a couple of former Optima engineers when I lived in CO. They were laid off from Optima when they moved manufacturing to Mexico. Optima used to make great batteries. Now, not so much from what I hear and read.

Always had good luck with the Advance in Noblesville Indiana. The battery in my Dakota died at a grocery store, (with perishable goods) not only did they deliver it to me, but they also brought tools and replaced it.
Had the same experience here in Little River with O'Rielly's, they brought it over, and I followed the driver to the store and paid for it.

Usually the battery will have a "Date bought" code or sticker, expiration date, or even a color code indicating one of the previous. Either way, the receipt shouldn't have been necessary.
