Have the 5.7 with about 75000kms. Just over a month ago I end up with battery issues. Had to jump start a few times. One day ended up with a check engine light and scanned codes.
Had a lot of low voltage codes, understandably. I bought a new battery and installed.
1. Ever since I have lost traction control, I have anti skid but tires will just spin in snow and such. Checked for codes and have no pending or permanent, just status confirmed I can not clear. Don’t know the cause.
2. The voltage gauge when engine is running is always between half and 3/4. Sweat be for all this it read at half but can’t remember. Don’t know if that is normal.
3. For the past year in cold weather I have been getting noise from the serpentine bet like a bearing is going. Dealership said nothing is wrong, till my belt ended up quite worn and they determined it was my alternator. It was replaced under warranty. Yet still got the sound in cold and voltage gauge is still between half and 3/4.
4. Top it off o have been getting antifreeze smell by passenger side grill and near empty overflow. Dealership said it was my heater core though no signs inside truck. Needless to say they changed it under warranty. Smell is still there but never had it when I first bought the truck. I think it is the water pump by where sound is. Haven’t notice any leaks but it could be small and it is winter.
Any help in determining any issues or what to check would be helpful as the dealership is not. All them around me suck. IMG_5962.png

Thanks I guess the voltage is good in my truck. I did try a bms relearn and no change. I still don’t understand how I got anti skid but no traction. My only thought is that those status confirmed are effecting it.
By any chance there any ideas on the antifreeze smell and bearing noise?

If you suspect the water pump, take that **** seriously.

In the time it takes you to realize there is a problem and look down at the gauge, realized it is pegged, then pull out of traffic and onto the shoulder, you can easily ruin an engine. I know from personal experience.

Ge a helper. Put a breaker bar on the tensioner and take the tension off the belt. Have your helper hold the tensioner OFF the belt so that it's nice and slack, then start wiggling the fan forward/back and see if there is any wiggle to the water pump pulley.

Turn if a few times and see if its smooth, or not smooth.

Get a flashlight and crawl under. Look at the bottom of the water pump and see if there is any evidence of leaking.

Or, pay someone else to do all that. Either way.

But, whatever you do, don't just sit on-ass and ignore it.

Never trust the idiot gauge 100%. Check the digital readout on the EVIC and then get a digital meter and do some voltage checks, with engine both on and off, to verify what is really happening. If unsure how, get someone that is sure and get that done (along with ensuring your water pump is good).

I have been taking to the dealership. The first time they said they didn’t find a problem. But my belt was wore. At the time I just had surgery and couldn’t change it, so I paid them to do it. A few week later when I was able to move around I noticed the noise still there. I had to wait a little to get it in and then they said it was the alternator and would replace under warranty but the belt was wore. Got a new belt for free. The noise is still there periodically but it has been as cold. I suspect the water pump from the smell by the grill and the low overflow level. But have been trying to figure it out.

Look into rmi-25

That stuff prevents many water pump fails I would wager good money on it. But once it starts to fail as in bearings are shot or seals blew, you need that replaced. Do the thermostat at the same time. Ask the dealer if since you got the alt under warranty can you get water pump.

Leading cause is bad coolant, rmi-25 is coolant renewer and cleaner which is what coolants lack, a way to clean safely.

Have you checked the coolant level at the radiator cap (engine cold, of course)? It should be full up to the filler neck.

The overflow tank has an opening to the atmosphere, and sometimes you can get a whiff of coolant smell. With that said, don't ignore things as @Ken226 stated. You have to make double and triple sure you don't have a leak somewhere.

A cooling system pressure tester is a must-have tool, IMO. Not super-expensive, and damn handy to have.

Also, I keep my EVIC screen on the temperatures page. That way, I can keep an eye on my temps. My Hemi DID overheat on me early last year due to a cracked radiator. Luckily, I was able to get over and shut it down in time.

You are in the right place for help. Keep us posted what you find.

If he's not overheating leave the thermostat alone Mike.Better odds of getting a dud thermostat, then there are of getting a good one these days.

risk it, go buy it from oem. Chances are he had some bad fluid going threw it.
