I've search older threads about modifying the H9 bulb to fit. My question is I've read where some trim both the metal top piece tab and the black rubber tab in the plug area and some only trim the black rubber tab and not the metal tab.

I have a 2018 Big Horn with quad lights and wonder if I need to trim the metal piece? I have the bulbs and would like to get them installed, but don't want to do any more trimming than necessary. Is is best to trim both areas, or can I get by with just trimming the rubber tab in the plug area?

Thanks for the help.

Convert, for now.

small
I only did black plastic, but if you pull headlight out, you can make easy changes until they fit. HUGE upgrade in lights!

Thanks graygoose. I'm planning to have my local shop install them so I want to have them trimmed properly beforehand. I'll go with just trimming the rubber tab and see if it works. I'll tell them to trim the metal tab if they run into any issues.

Did you trim the top metal piece along with using this harness?

There was no trimming involved, complete plug n play.
It has been a while since I did it, I believe I ordered them from Innovated Wiring...

You might want to also consider upgrading the high beams to 9011 HIR1 and the fogs to 9012 HIR2 while you're at it! I did mine too and they are great!!!! For the high beams and fogs, I DID end up cutting the tabs...

Way ahead of you.....already purchased the 9011 hi's and 9012 fogs as I plan to change them all while I'm getting it done. The modifications for those are more straight forward as I only trimmed the top plastic piece to match the old bulbs.
