Hello, I have a 2012 Ram 1500 Longhorn Laramie. In the last two to three weeks my truck is hard to start. I can use a little starting fluid and it will crank. Other times I turn the key and it starts right up. Once it’s running it drive normal. I thought it might be the fuel pump but it’s been my experience that when fuel pump goes out it’s normally finished and the vehicle want do anything. I took it to a local shop and they said it’s not the fuel pump but it’s fuel related. Then the shop told me that TIPM was sticking. The truck only has 64,000 miles on it. Has anyone had anything similar happen to there ram? Any ideas or help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I take it that you’re truck is a diesel. Diesel needs 3 things to run air, fuel and heat. So one of those is not up to snuff. Once you get it running if you shut it off does it start again easily or does it give you grief again if it does hard start and it’s upto operating temp you know it’s not that. That leaves one of the other things air and fuel filters could be it. Easy on the starting fluid. Maybe you got some bad fuel and it’s sucking water every now and then

Got gas recently? I ended up with a tank of bad gas a few weeks ago and the truck barely ran. Had to have the tank drained.

No sir, my truck is powered by 5.7 leader Hemi. I have already drained the tank a filled it with 93 octane gas. Also put Heet fuel additive in the tank as well, just incase there’s some monitor. As I mentioned once the truck is running it performs well. Again any help or recommendations is greatly appreciated. Thank you,

So its a gas job. Do you have a code reader. Air fuel or spark something is out of whack did it happen all of a sudden or did it develop over time. I would put a code reader on it and see if anything comes up. Maybe a small leak in the fuel supply allowing the gas to run back then when you try to start it it pumps back up. Once it’s been running and you shut it off for a short period of time is it hard to start again
