Just curious if TFL ever retested the RAM HD with th 6.4 and the new 8 speed after such a dismal performance with the 6 speed going into survival mode in the earlier tests.
I have not been able to find it if they have.

Taken it to Colorado yet ?!

I have a 19 6.4 8sp with 4.10. For a couple truck payments and hotel accommodations I'll let them use mine for the video!

They are too busy with the Ford they got. The gas XLT that cost them as much as a Bighorn with a Cummins.

Dang is it really that much? I've been a Ford guy all my life and for my first new vehicle purchase I wanted an f250. They would hardly come off MSRP for a base truck with no power anything. Ended up getting the Ram 2500 crew cab long bed 6.4 with 4.10s.

So far I'm pleased, although I've already had several parts replaced in the first 3k miles. Atleast the dealer is standing behind it.

Yeah, it might make "Godzilla" look bad. After having my 2015 6.4, I am very interested to see how it does. The 6.4 is damn stout, and was definititely held back by the 66RFE. I was pulling at over 23K combined, so I was pushing it pretty hard.

I loved my 15 with the 6.4 6 speed with 3.73 gears. Wasn't quit that heavy dragging my TT but close. Great truck. If I didn't have such a desire an need for a long box I'd still have it.

They paid 53k, think it stickered around 55k.

I’m tempted to take my neighbor’s 12000# trailer to the Ford dealer and see how Godzilla performs.

TFL talked about this in one of their podcasts, which I watched on YouTube. Ram will not allow them to pick up the truck due to the virus. The truck is setting in Michigan waiting on them and they can’t get it.

I don't think the 6.4 will have a better time than the Ford 7.3 up the ike. With the 10 speed, the 7.3 is very strong. I'd be extremely disappointed if the 6.4/8spd didn't do better than GM's 6.6 gasser. I do think the 6.4/8 might be a better overall package than the 7.3 for everyday general driving. Everything time TFL has hooked up a trailer to the 7.3 whether its 5k or 16K it pulls easily with the 10 speed and depletes the gas tank fairly rapidly. Still haven't seen a review of the 7.3 where there towing mileage is above 8 on several sites.

And I've already read on forums where guys have traded their 7.3 in for the new diesel just because of their mile range was significantly less. There seems to be a 5-6 mpg difference between Fords 7.3 gasser and 6.7 diesel. RAM about 3-4. I think RAM is in a good spot with the 6.4/8 spd for value and performance. If Ford drops the proven 6.2 which gets better overall mileage than the 7.3 from the early limited data, RAM could pick-up some business for guys wanting a balanced 3/4 ton gas truck package. I'm certainly intrigued by the 7.3/10spd but my 6.4/6 does everything I need it too, but I do yearn for the 8 speed..;)

I don't understand all the gears you never use them all in normal driving. The 6 speed in my 2015 6.4 didn't get any better or worse mileage than the 6 4 8 speed in my 2019. The only difference in the trucks is the box, the 2019 is 8ft so it doesn't porpose towing the camper as bad as the short box when goin over bridges or what not. To me adding all these extra gears is no more than a selling point we have more than you do.

It's not all about how many gears. The 66RFE runs the same ratios as the 68RFE, which is for the Cummins. First gear is not low enough for the 6.4 to get a heavy trailer moving, and it is more succeptible to fall into "holes" in the gear spacing that the Cummins can grunt through. The other part of the equation is purely operational, and where the RFE feels like a stumblebum, the ZF is quick and slick, and always in the right gear at the right time. The ZF also doesn't(AFAIK)lock out top gear(s) in Tow/Haul, where the RFE would lock out 6th, and would be very reluctant to grab 5th when pulling heavy on flat ground. I would take it out of T/H on long flat stretches so it wouldn't be stuck in 4th until the end of time. I put 43K miles on my '15, and it only took a brief test drive in my buddy's '19 to feel a huge improvement with the ZF.

My initial comment was tongue-in-cheek. I harbor no illusions that it would be faster up the Ike, but what I do certainly hope for is it gets to the top in reasonable time, without being in limp mode.

As to 7.3 mpg, I had an '04 Chebby 8.1 gasser with so-called Allison. It got 8 mpg pulling my 7x14 box trailer. It was a hot rod when empty, and pulled just OK, and the trans hunted a lot on hills. Plus it had a ridiculously small gas tank, like 24(?) gallons. Range was just awful. It spent most of the time in the shop, and got Lemon-Lawed for a different transmission issue that GM couldn't/wouldn't fix.
