This past winter I was coming out of the mountains in Colorado on the interstate at night, I couldn't see anything! We pulled over to clean off my headlights and they were a little dirty but no more than anyone else. I could clearly see the beams of other cars going down the road but I was going down the road nearly blind. Anyone know why this may be? I have the stock bulbs in it but they light up the road fine in other situations, it was only coming down the mountains in the winter time. The road was wet but once again I drive in the rain all the time. Anyone else experienced this?

I don't see how there could be any atmospheric affect.

Our head lights do suck to begin with.

Dark, Mountains, Rain, all of those make it super hard to see to start with. The stock headlights are hardly great in ideal situations, you take wet asphalt when its dark and your virtually blind. Dont make the mistake of putting hotter bulbs in there stay in the 4000-5000k range and get a quality HID or LED in there.

The LED's Im running till my projector retrofit is done will do 5000k, and with a flick of a switch they switch to 3000k which is pure yellow and even in the dark, and black wet asphalt I can see everything, its pretty impressive.

I just go by my experience, there are a lot more knowledgeable than me. I’d happily assist in your lighting journey to the best of my ability. Ask away and Im sure many will answer.

yeah I am in same boat, we need a "headlights for dummies" thread I think lol... Projectors, Quads, Duals, LED, etc - all mass confusion, at least here.

Just a couple snowboards, why keep within the 4-5000k Range? Any recommended bulbs?

The 4000-5000 range is best for the eyes as well illuminating dark objects. Once you start getting up there in the 6000 range the lights start turning blue, which look cool but then dark objects stay dark as it does not reflect the same, as well blue light causes eye strain. The lower ranges like 3000 really illuminates white and reflecting objects but not perfect for dark objects. The advantage going to being able to see the road stripes, lines, and signs easiest with no effort, but won’t help see say a deer. So perfect trade off is the 4300 temp as it’s the midline for the best illumination and comfort for the eyes.

When it’s hard raining my current bulbs I can switch to 3000 and it’s polarizing difference in being able to see road markings and making myself see, same as in the fog.

There is a lot of people that want 5000-6000 for the looks, me I want to see

do you have the projector style or the 4 beam style headlights? if you have the 4 beam versions then i highly recommend the Phillips H11 LED bulbs. you will need an anti flicker module but it and the driver for the LED all fit inside the headlight. it was night and day difference in light performance and the beam pattern from the LED's was spot on with what my stock halogens produced. you have to completely remove the lights from the truck to change the bulbs but there are plenty of how to's on here and youtube. the bulbs will cost you around $120 and the modules will run you around $30 for the pair.
