Headlights always on in drive

On my 2006 Powerwagon any time I go in drive the headlights turn on. Is this normal for our generation of trucks? I have HID's installed now and would prefer they weren't burning every time I'm driving around.

It's possible that your truck has daytime running lights active. While in drive, put the parking brake on and see if they shut off. It may not work with 3rd gens but on 13+ trucks setting the parking break is a way to test drl's
