Hi all. Always loved the look of the Ram since I saw the first one in 1995. That Peterbilt front does it for me. My friend with a Ram is trying to convince not to get one but he failed. I just love the look.

I am hopefully picking up my 2004 5.7L Hemi Quad Cab with the sport appearance package (body color grille and bumpers) on Wednesday if all goes well. A tick under 78,000 miles on the clock and everything looks pretty clean other than the rear bumper being bent in the middle upwards a bit. The dealer is giving me one month/1,000 mile limited warranty on engine and drivetrain though so I guess my first order of business is going straight to my mechanic to get it thoroughly inspected.

The engine is scary though. This is my 2nd full sized truck. I had a 2004 GMC Sierra previously which I bought new with the 4.3L V6 with a piddly 235hp and 295ft-lbs. which is really nothing compared to the 5.7L Hemi. On the test drive of the Hemi, I spun the truck making an U-turn in a cul-de-sac... guess I need to discipline my lead foot.

I have one question though, what is the difference with all the sport packages and is the Hemi Sport with the hood scoop and air effects a totally different setup than the sport appearance which is just the body color grille and bumper? I am guessing right now because I tried googling the answers and couldn't find anywhere that explains what the packages were for that year.

welcome to RF. The hemi sport vs. a regular sport is just an appearance package. Like you said hood scoop and ground effects. There are no performance differences that i know of.

Thanks guys. Yeah, I think the dealer is also confused because he checked both the Hemi Sport group and the Sport group on options and I knew that wasn't right, both added the same value to the Kbb ($100/135).

If all goes well, I will pick her up tomorrow night. Already got some plans for it to make it a nice do it all truck, but mainly appearances first. Gotta have that hot truck for nights out on the town, especially in a town where full sized trucks are still not very common for normal use.

So really? That's it?

Sport package = color match grilles and bumpers

Hemi Sport package = above + hood scoop, ground effects, and running boards

Thanks all!

Picked it up last night. Amazing truck. Bigger than my Sierra, or at least it feels bigger. Gas mileage wasn't bad coming back from the dealer, I was averaging 19-20mpg on the freeway the whole time... of course, it was light traffic limiting me to 60-65mph the whole time so I never really got to stomp on the 5.7L Hemi.

Now the fun part... cleaning up all the accumulated dirt from what looks like 3 months of parking in the middle of an Iraqi sandstorm, and then just toying with everything to get it to the way I like it!

Pics will be posted as soon as I take some after a carwash.

Cool! I love that hood. Maybe I can find an used silver or black one to put on my regular Sport package. Got it washed today and took a few pics before the light went away.

Thanks for all the warm greetings! I think Ram owners are a tighter group than what I have seen with Ford or GM trucks... or maybe I haven't looked but there's something about a Ram... it just looks right. That's why the Tundra copied it so extensively. When you got a good thing, it just invites imitation, or flattery.

It got quite a few compliments at work too. Some people thought it was a brand new truck that I bought and one guy told me how much he loved his 2004 Hemi... which is just like mine. He said he couldn't help himself from stomping on the fun pedal all the time even though he knows it doesn't help his wallet come fill up time.
