Just finished the first tank of gas... averaging a sad 16.2mpg on the trip computer. So far, getting 18.8mpg on the first drive of the 2nd tank... yes, I know I am missing the whole point of owning a Hemi... but I have a 80 mile round trip for work and it's costing me almost $20/day to work!

A sad 16.2? Id say that's pretty alright. But yes 80 miles round trip will get expensive quick..congrats on the new truck brother, the best color out there lol

Thanks, bro. Noticed you are not too far from me. Nice silver truck with cool mods. What is a grille shell and what type of mpg does the 3.7 get?

Go figure though, we're the 2 in the area and we have pretty identical trucks.

The broken ashtray was something the dealer threw in for free... although I did get one month limited warranty on the engine/transmission which was impressive for an used car of this vintage. Maybe I should list that warranty on the mods list too!

3.7 get about the same if noot worse mileage than the hemi, same with the 4.7 I believe. Think of it this way, you have 2 trucks, one with more hp/tq than the other, both weigh the same amount. Who do you think will get up and moving easier? The more efficient your truck runs and the easier you can get up to speed with the least amount of pedal pressed the better your mpg's with be. My truck gets 16.4mpg, difference though is I drive it like I stole it a lot lol.

The grille shell is the shell around the grille duh :roflsquared:

Really though, go pop the hood, the part that comes up with the hood is the shell, it is attached to the hood. The grille is the inserts inside the shell.

Gotcha... so the grille shell is what they meant when it is body color matched for the Sport package... basically the Dodge Cross.

CTD? Cummings Turbo Diesel? Man, that's quite a jump in power!

I had a Sierra with the 4.3L V6 back in the day. Wasn't too bad. Got a nice average of 19-20mpg with 95/5 split highway/local miles.

yup after much deliberation and a lot of help from the guys on here i made my mind up on a Cummins. its gonna be a huge jump for me hopefully i can hang lol...the truck im looking at is a high output Cummins rated at about 600 lbft of torque...my v6 is rated at like 250 lol.....i wouldnt be able to give a highway mpg because my driving style is the complete opposite of yours...95/5 city/highway..what part of LA you live in?

Welcome to the Forum man I hope you are enjoying the Ram. If you bought it for mileage then I am sorry. If you bought it because you wanted the best then your in luck they are the best. Is it 2wd?

I hear ya. I recall test driving the 5.7L Hemi back in 2004 when they first came out and when I stomped on the pedal, the instant torque scared the heck out of me so I went with the 4.3L V6 Sierra, but that engine was 235hp/295ft-lbs. Now I am back in the exact same car that I should have bought back in the day anyway. Go figure.

The only car that I had that came close to these figures was my 2006 BMW 650i with 360hp/360ft-lbs but the torque was not the same, being a high revving V8 instead of this low rev rumbling torque monster.

I live in San Gabriel and pass through your hood everyday.

Haha. Yeah, if I really wanted a high mileage car, I would have just bought a 4 door Civic and drove everyday in shame. I wanted a big honkin all American truck because I need to haul stuff and also because it's just cool! It's just my OCD kicking in everytime I see the trip computer showing me the fuel economy.

It's 2wd. In the LA area, the only time we'll need 4wd is when we go over the curb feelers in the parking lots trying to get at that parking space.

Nah... I work in the Inland. That's why I ***** about the gas mileage... even though I have no right to complain since I did buy a Hemi so I have to live with it. It's fun though... some douche sets up next to you to cut you off in his little fart can rice rocket and you step on the gas a bit and he's wondering how did that truck do that!
