If vehicle is started with remote, and assuming the key is inserted and turned upon entering vehicle, does truck stay running after doing that?

2011 has a TIPM and a Win Module ignition between the key/fob and starter, both are known issues. You can bypass both and put a push button ignition tied to cig lighter relay, which only comes on with power. The downside is you dont need a key to start it at that point, lol.

Look up how to clean win module ignition as a starting point. My guess this is the issue, if it isnt then the fob or tipm has to be.

If you need a new win, the fob has to be programmed. I think the main supplier has been out so long I dont think he sells them anymore. They sold win plus programmed fobs to that win and did so fairly cheap like 500ish, not so easy to find anymore.

looked it up now they are a grand, lol. Gotta love this new america, so stupid. They do sell them, look up ate fobs, but I wouldnt pay a grand.

Ask your friend to try wiggling the key fob up/down as ya turn the fob in the switch...aka Win module, to see if it happens to start that way. It might not, but worth a try for a few times just to help zero in on the issue. The contact area of the Win module (key switch) can get corroded or dirty and not make a good contact. There are some other issues which can occur with the Win module like bad solder joints. Youtube has some good (detailed) DIY tutorials on the module worth watching. Just search them out.

Also might be worth swapping a couple of the start relays in the fusebox in the engine compartment (with other similar relays). From a troubleshooting perspective, it doesn't cost anything or take more than 10 minutes, so worth a try. There have been guy's who've had relays flake out, and it is a 2011 after all. If that makes a difference, replace them.

As mentioned above, the TIPM fuel pump relay was a known issue on 2011's. Since the vehicle does start it probably isn't that. But if it's intermittent then it might be. A guy can swap out the relay itself (search Amazon or Ebay), or have the board re-conditioned or replaced. Or buy a $12 fuel pump bypass cable (search out Amazon/Ebay). But per the OP's description, it probably isn't the fuel pump relay. But if things change, its worth looking into.

Best of luck!

the win module with programed fobs, so no I meant 500ish, sadly now is a grand. ATE fobs.

I do see ebay sells some wins they say are new for like 200, I would try that over spending a grand. I bought all my fobs dirt cheap off ebay and paid a locksmith 160 bucks if I remember correctly to program them all. The point is the ATE are popular here as they were plug and play. But it looks like they priced themselves out of the popular market.

I know a few or couple guys that bought these. I don't even like posting it, lets say just for information purposes, the price is stupid.

I had the guy cut me a pod key, cost 40 dollars. I can key open doors and gate and start the truck if fob wont open doors. damn I miss the old days, damn key for everything and ignitions never failed.
