I have been trying to track down the source of a high idle problem since I replaced my cam, lifters, springs on my ’12 Ram 5.7. Stage 1 Comp Cam, Johnson drop in lifters, Comp Cams springs. Low mileage 5.7 (70K) and a good runner before the overhaul. Did the Electric fan swap out, HP tuner software.
I have been over all sources of possible vacuum leaks. Intake has been off twice looking for problems. All new gaskets, and even replaced the fel-pro intake gaskets with OEM’s. pressure tested the intake system twice, including the intake when it was off… she’s tight. Replaced IAT, MAF, and tried a second throttle body. My tuner has the idle set for 704 rpm but she runs around 900 and fluctuates/surges +/- 50 rpm. It seems like a vacuum issue… when I tried the second throttle body it actually raised the idle a bit. I have done relearns using the HP tuner software each time the TB was messed with. It also has a quick surge before the idle settles down after revving. My tuner has been helpful, but he’s not my mechanic. We can’t get the idle to settle and it’s not making the power it should. Starts great, no misses. It’s hard to tune some that has a bug somewhere.
Does anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks in advance…
