2012 1500 5.7 with roughly 56000 miles on it. Have this starting issue that only appears when its extremely cold out (today was -30c or -22f). truck starts totally normal, starter engages and turns over totally normal, but after the truck actually fires up there's a horrible grinding noise for about a half second.

Sounds almost like if you turn the key on a motor that's already running, causing the starter to grind if that makes sense.

Is it possible for a starter or solenoid to stick on only in cold weather? Anyone else ever see this? Thanks in advance for any help.

Yeah, that's the solenoid not kicking back upon startup. You could try just tapping the key enough to click it once or twice before starting to loosen it up, or maybe wrap the starter in heat shield tape.
