Hello gang,
FIRE UP (Scott) here. Brand new to this forum (duh, obviously!) and thought I'd say hello. We, the CEO and I, just procured a new to us, 2021 Ram 1500 Larami 4x4 3.0L Ecodiesel in Delmonico Red Pearl Coat. Man is that thing a BEAUTY! It's got the super ***** "Mountain Brown/Light frost beige (Suede) material. OUTSTANDING! And, it's it's only sporting a whopping 35K miles on it. It still smells brand new! So far, we're both really liking that Ecodiesel 3.0L. Neither one of us are "hot doggers" and don't sprint from stop light to stop light so, the power output of that little V-6 diesel is just fine for us.
And, as typical for me (us), we both look up stuff on youtube and Google and more to find out what we're looking for that may, or may not be in the owners manual that WE DID NOT GET with the truck. Never can figure out why people lose the owners manual on sooooo many vehicles, trucks, cars, space ships, sub marines and more. Anyway, I have a leadng question pertaining to our new beauty.
As stated, I made an inquiry to the internet as to how much DEF this particular year/model/drive Ram holds? The reply came back as 8 gallons. OK, so, since I don't know any better, I took that for granted. We had, when we purchased the truck, just a hair over the 1/4 mark on the gauge. Sooo, since we're wanting to start out fresh with a based point to build a scenario of just how much DEF is used pertaining to mileage etc. I purchased 2.5 gallon DEF at Walmart and installed it. After that, the gauge read very close 3/4 tank. Well, I want a full tank to start my learning curve on so, off to Walmart again and this time, instead of the el-cheap-o stuff, I opted for the $15 dollar stuff.
I very carefully put that in and did not want any overflow. Well, it took the whole second container which you all know is 2.5 gallons. Now the gauge is tip top completely full.
Soooooo, with all that junk being said, I've electronically found the owners manual and in it's specs, it states the DEF tank is 5.7 gallons for my model (Laramie + many more). And, here's the deal. If I was right at the 1/4 mark on that tank prior to me purchasing and installing ANY DEF, and then I installed 5 gallons, according to the owners manual, the amount in the "1/4" tank range is only .7 gallons! That to me, doesn't make sense but what do I know. My thought here is, even though the manual states that tank is only 5.7 gallons, it was at the 1/4 mark when I added 5 gallons. I think it's closer to the internet answer I received which is 8 gallons. But, I could be way off here by assuming this. We all know what "assume" means so....
