How's this for a high-mileage Hemi?

Went up to NC last Fri. and returned yesterday. Just looked at my trip screen.

I did see 23.9 mpg on the EVIC a couple times. Hand calculated one tank of gas to 21.3 mpg, so not too shabby for my Hemi.

We made quite a few stops, and ran around the Charlotte area while there, and had some periods of idling while stopped as well.

All in all, I think the Old Girl did very well on the trip. Here's the EVIC after arriving home:

My 2005 SLT is approaching 180k miles; I hope it'll hit 300k one day.

I am impressed with the mileage. She's bone stock. 3.21 open diff, single exhaust.

Now, my Hemi does have all new internals except for cam, crank, and rod bearings, pistons, rings, and crankshaft.

But even before the cam/lifter job, she was still getting great mileage (provided I went easy on the skinny pedal).

Also, the numbers I see aren't really different from what I was getting before.

You know, these are pretty impressive numbers when you really sit back and take it in. Think back just a short time ago, all trucks were basically thought of as gas guzzlers, just accept it. 15 and 16 mpg was just considered normal amd the price of admission. Today we have trucks with V8's and 400(ish, lets round) hp getting low-mid 20's on a hwy drive. It's the 8 speed transmissions giving some OD gears I think that really changed the game from years and years of 4 speeds. My buddy has a pentastar Ram (2014) with that version 8 speed and hand calculated I was blown away how good his mpg was. On a highway I am sure he would be high 20's easy (he drives like a nun, good dude), and with a 305hp engine. He loves his truck. He had a Honda CRV (maybe 2009?) before I pushed him to buy his Ram. He always wanted a Ram but said he wouldn't be able to accept the truck mpg. I told him a V6 Ram would be as good or better than his CRV, the 8 speed trans has really changed the game. He got his dream truck.

If I still had my 04, it would have about 226,000 on it now.. It had 202,00 when it got totaled and I've put 24,000 on the new truck since then. I miss that truck.
