In another thread , l saw Crumgeon mention that with 3.21 ratio , he had 1500rpm @70 mph in top gear .

With '17 Laramie 4x4 w/ tow package , l am dead on 1500 rpm @ 57mph , 70mph is 1950 - ish rpm .

Am l correctly implying that this is probably a 3.91 ?

Yep, I knew when I bought it I had no plans to tow, haul, or otherwise use it for work. The odd and rare lumber or firewood run, and then commuter and grocery-getter, so the 3.21 was ideal for me.

Yanking a travel-trailer across the country side (for example) is a job better suited to the 3.92.

My yardstick was my " truck that was most suited to me at the time " ( current Ram too new to me for long term ranking yet ) .

'88.5 S-10 4x4 std cab short bed . The first of the 4.3s in the S-10 , 3.73 gears , with 700R4 .

The way l see it , 3.91 with the double OD 8 speed gives me a higher ( lower numerically ) final drive ratio than did Lil" Red with the 700R4 .
