Hello everyone. I have an extra roll of some LED strips that I ordered from alibaba and I'm planning on trying to set them up under the steering column and glove box. I'm a bit of a rookie when it comes to electrical things so I just wanted to run it by you guys and see if it will work. I did a bit of research on this forum and see that quite a few people have set these up, but they are using RGB controllers with remotes and such. Mine is super basic, it actually came with a 12v adapter but it was not functional (cant really expect quality control from a product made in china I guess)

Anyway here's what it looks like:

So what i'm wondering, should I get a fuse tap like one of these?

Then ground the black wire to a steel surface with the red wire connected to the fuse tap? Will that even work? Forgive my ignorance.
And if this isn't possible, which wires under the steering column could I tap into?

This is for a 2012 1500 Laramie by the way.

Thanks in advance.

Don’t worry about the fuse tap.. get rid of that screw tap connector.

Attach one strip of LEDs under your steering column to the footwell lighting connector. It will be ******* to a wire bundle just behind and above your OBDII port. It’s a small black connector. It will have a colored wire...maybe with a color strip on it, and have a black wire. Black is ground and colored is positive.

There is another footwell lighting connector on the passenger side. This one is tucked behind the plastic kick panel on the right side.
There is a thread on here about footwell lighting. You could search for that in the interior category. In there will be pics explaining it better.

You could just cut those connectors off and splice in your wires from the LEDs.

Many have done it, including myself. They come in anytime you open your door or use the slide switch dimmer under the headlight switch. They will fade off just like the interior lights do.
