is my tread depth OK for snow?

Hi,

This is my first truck, previously I've had SUVs. I bought the truck at the end of last winter and had it in one or two light snows, and it was fine for what I was expecting.

The previous owner said he figured the tires would need to be replaced before this coming winter.

They have between 9/32 and 10/32 of tread, which for a car or light SUV would be ample, but how's that on a truck?

It's running Falken Wildpeak AT3W at 295/60R20.

Thanks,
Toby.

How far are they from the wear markers? That will tell you remaining tread depth. It also is very different between LT tires and passenger tires.

The wear bars are not obvious, but seem to be at about 2/32. So I'm waaay above those, but if I took it down to 2/32 they'd look pretty much bald.

If you've got 9/32 right now, that's roughly half the tread of that tire when new. Seems like you'd be pretty good for the winter.

And you have highly-rated tires as well. You're good!

If they're snowflake rated there's 2 different wear bars. 1 for replacement time and 1 for no longer winter rated. That will tell you if you're good or not.
