I got my Falken Wildpeak A/T3Ws (275/65 R18 116T SL RBL) from Discount Tire back in November 2023. Thought they were great tires—until now. I’ve put about 13-14k miles on them, mostly highway and city driving, nothing extreme.

Went in for an oil change recently and was told my tread wear was bad. Took the truck to Discount Tire on Monday, and they had me make an appointment to check it out. Went back today, and after they called Falken, they said the best they could do was 20% off since the tread is uneven.

I’ve never run them over- or underinflated enough to cause this, and they were rotated once since I got them. Here are my tread depth measurements:
  • LF: 8/10/9
  • RF: 9/9/8
  • RR: 6/3/5
  • LR: 8/6/7
I already tried the warranty, but it only covers issues if all four tires are in the same condition—so I’m out of luck there. Discount Tire is trying to help me out, and the guy there felt bad, so he offered me a set of non-Falken tires for $600 (took off about $600).

I also called Falken, and they basically said the 20% discount is a "goodwill rebate" and that the warranty doesn’t cover this issue.

Now, Discount Tire is offering me a full set of BFG All-Terrain T/A KO3s for $644 total, but I don’t want an E-rated tire since I’ll lose MPG and they’ll be noisier. Not sure if I should push for a discount on the AT/4s instead, but Falken isn’t budging.

Just feeling stuck—these tires aren’t even that old or heavily used. Should I take the BFG deal? Try to get Discount Tire to swap me to AT/4s? Any advice on either of these tires or this situation?

In my eyes there is nothing wrong with the tread depth of those tires. If the wear pattern is uneven, cupped or something like that I would change the direction of rotation of each tire by placing it on the opposite side of the vehicle and keep driving them until they were at the 2/32" wear indicator but that's just me.

With that being said I would certainly check the suspension and steering and alignment on your truck because those tires have 14/32" tread depth when new and that is a lot of tread wear after 14,000 miles.

I have dealt with your issue for years with tire manufacturers and they won't budge like you said. The "goodwill rebate" is the best you are going to get from them.

I would ask Discount Tire if they will change their offer from a Load Range E tire to a Load Range D or C for your truck if you really don't want an E rated tire on the ground.

I have a set of ATW3 in 315s on my w250, probably close to 65k miles and probably 30-40% tread left.

The fact it is uneven across the tires indicates an alignment or suspension issue, and that is what they are most likely considering it. Their warranty is for excessive wear and failure in the warranty period, not bad alignment.

I have been running the same tires, but E rated with no issues. I tow a camper so I like the stiffer sidewall. Sounds like you have more than just an alignment issue. I would look at your ball joints and maybe your control arm bushings. You're lucky to be getting a discount already. Most company's now, put their hands up and say not our problem. Take the discount and run.
