Is my truck considered 1500 5th gen or 1500 classic?

Hey all, sorry I’m new to the forum and to Ram itself. It’s my first truck.

I have a 2022 1500 Bighorn quad cab 6”4’ bed 4x2. I wanted to add a front leveling kit but I’m not sure if this is considered 5th gen or classic.

Any help will be greatly appreciated thanks

He's right, 5th gen. Probably the easiest way to tell is to count the lug nuts. 4th gens have five and 5th gens have six.

Yes definitely a 5th gen. They are also known as DT and the 4th gens are DS. When I first bought my 5th gen I went looking for window vent visors and the guy asked if I had a DT or DS. I had no clue what the hell he was talking about lol.

Yep - grille, lights and lug nuts say you've got a 5th Gen. Congrats on the new truck. Now, how can we help spend your money?
That was my next question lol. Would a motofab 2.5” front leveling kit fit my 5th gen? If not, any recommendations on a good front leveling kit. Don’t want a full blown lift.
Thanks

How about a 2021? Sure, my lug nut count is off by one. And the grey ghost uses the body panels of a Gen 4, but the engine and controllers and all patches are G5. Does an owner call it Gen 4 for body parts and accessories but call it G5 when looking into engine performance chips, air intakes, etc.?

My warranty replacement front transfer case wasn't enough fix; still getting the 4WD Serv light. Trying to do diagnostics is no fun when you don't know the gen. Where do you see the DT versus DS marker?

Just 4th gen, the classic with 5 lug wheels is the same generation that has been in production since the model year 2009 with a refresh in 2013 and minor updates since then. The 1500 DT with 6 lug wheels is a nearly a complete redesign (though many of the drivetrain options are very similar if not the same as they did not do too much in this regard with the new generation) that began for the model year 2019.

For easiest parts ordering though for any classic I would just order for a 2018 to avoid any confusion between DS and DT parts since the DT was not in production for that model year. That way you don't have to worry about designating the need for a DS part as oppose to the DT.

Great response! IOU free coffee! Motorhome owners can have a tough time. The cutaway chassis can be a year or two older than the overall motorhome. So buying a fanbelt for a 2022 MH may get complicated if the chassis is from 2019, and the chassis uses a different engine from the latest chassis. I was concerned the 2021 I own might be more a "tweenie".

That would be 2019+ HD's. They still use 4th gen sheet metal, but the "guts" have been upgraded...mostly.
