I bought the jack retainer bolt upgrade from the newer models.
It's a stud with a plastic, hand-turned retainer nut.
It took me 20 minutes with vice-grips to remove the original bolt, even though I occasionally remove it to make sure it's removable...
Not a good situation in an emergency.
The stud will never have to be removed from the floorboard and the retainer that is removed remains clean, inside the cabin.
Best $8 I've spent so far.
