Just blew my v6 truck up, how hard is it to replace it with a hemi v8

I have a 2017 Ram 1500 crew cab, express. With the V6 3.6 vvt
5 lug and the cheesey V6 transmission

Most prudent thing to do is find a good used engine from a source such as car-part.com or a reliable local source that may be part of a network. Get it with a warranty and installed by a known reliable shop. Move on with life and drive it until it no longer owes you. How can you be “upside down” on a seven year old truck? Suck it up. Don’t give this thing away and think it’s going to help,

I normally never owe money on anything. But I wanted a nice truck. I normally have a jacked up jeep or Toyota. I can do all the work myself.
But last year I bought this truck for 19,000 and because I drive a lot the warranty didn't last long. And the 100th mile over warranty it started. Everything that could go wrong went wrong. I have $1,700 in parts in this blown up engine. And I owe 18,000 because after taxes it was more and after a $4,000 dollar warranty...
I think if if I replace the engine and get a good warrant on a new engine I can turn around and sell it for $22,000
But and I'll be ok with taking a $2,500 loss.
I'll just go back to paying cash for cars

So, what exactly failed on your original engine?

In earlier theads you mentioned running hot. Did it seize up? Did it die with a crunch or bang? Or just quit?

If the engine is indeed toast, a compatible one from salvage would be the best and most cost-effective route, IMO.

But, depending on the failure, a rebuild might be an option, but more involved than a swap.

Understandable, but also understand that you are receiving an outpouring of people that are just trying to help and get you back on the road with least cost and/or least resistance. Lots of good folks here trying to understand your problem better to get you some solid advice to make a lemon into lemonade...

As you've figured out, warranties are typically wasted money. $4k would have bought an engine.

What's the $1700 in? Replacement stuff or "performance" stuff?

Always better to avoid commercial debt if you can *but* if it's in otherwise good shape and is presumed reliable with a new motor maybe consider paying it down. Used car prices are trending down at the moment, though if you have cash to buy something that's reliable that may not be a huge consideration overall

My brother and I have bought probably a dozen used engines private party over the years and never got stung once. The people we've gotten them from have been honest and up front. Usually a guy pulls a good engine from a wrecked or rusted vehicle they junk out, thinking it was a great motor (and they know b/c they owned it), which they might use it 'someday' in a street rod or off-road project. But either they changed directions on the project, or that project never materialized and they got tired of walking around it all the time and decided to sell. I would personally prefer to buy an engine that way. Then you know some history. If the guy doesn't know any of the history, then go to the next one.

They're usually 1/2 or 1/3 the price of a junk yard engine where they know absolutely nothing about the vehicle/engine.

You’re really basing your decisions on nothing more than wishes. You’d be better off blowing your $ at the race track or in Vega$. It would make more sense to replace that engine then drive the truck until it doesn’t owe you anything. But, Good luck with your plans. In My opinion,you’ll never get to where you think you’ll be with your planning.
