I've been lurking for a couple days so I figure an intro is in order. I've had trucks, Jeeps, and 4x4's my whole life, till '08 when I sold off everything 4x4/truck related due to $4.80/gal gas and put everything back into motorcycles, a passion since 1974. Combine some changes at work with some changes in life, and a growing dislike of econo-box cars(mine in particular, lol!)and it was time for a truck. The 4x4 itch had returned so the search began about 6 months ago. I'm not necessarily brand loyal, but I've had the best luck with Dodge trucks over the years so that's what I looked for. After lots of looking and having a couple sold out from underneath me, I found my truck, a '98 1500 Sport 4x4 with the 5.9l. She's not perfect, but she's a lot cleaner than anything else I looked at and a perfect platform for what I want.

The above pic is her good side, a little rust spot over the wheel well and that's it. The drivers side needs a little work. The p.o. hit a pole lightly on the drivers bed side-

A little rust on the bottom of the cab-

Drivers side rear light needs replaced-

The interior is exceptionally clean, no rips, tears, or cigarette burns, just one crack in the dash.

A plan is slowly coming together, so I'll be doing a bunch of lurking here :favorites13:

Not much for plans, yet. She's my daily driver so I need to keep good highway manners, but capable in the sticks as well since I live in the middle of nowhere and backroads can be a lot of fun. I'll probably end up on 33" MT's and call it good, not going to be rock-crawlin' so no need for lift. I'm still in process of deciding what to do about the bed, I'm no body guy so I'd either have to find a good bed or pay a shop to fix/paint it. I work for a company that builds flatbeds for trucks so I may end up going that route, since I'm working with a 1/2t platform I don't want the weight of a steel one so I might go with one of our aluminum beds, not sure yet. For now it'll be little things and enjoying driving a truck again:driver:

I'd put priority on taking care of the rust spot on the cab. The bed is still functional and what not but that rust is just going to grow over time and become a larger pita to take care of.

Oh and I use to have a 99, great truck, really miss it.

That's pretty much the plan, other than that one spot the cab is in great shape, I'd kinda like to keep it that way. Even though it appears to have had good maintenance done, I'm going through and changing all fluids. The next couple weeks will be spent giving her a thorough going over.

I did the same thing when I bought my 99.
