Got some new wheels (17" AEV Katla's) so time for some new mud tires. Debating between the following options:

Yokohama G003 37x12.5
  • D rated (3525 lbs @ 50 psi)
  • 36.8"x13.1" per spec; 10.2" tread width; 21/32" tread depth
  • 76 lbs
or

BF Goodrich KM3 37x12.5 / 37x13.5
  • D rated (3525 lbs @ 50 psi) / (3195 lbs @ 75 psi)
  • 36.5"x12.5" / 36.5"x13.5" per spec, 9.5" / 10.5" tread width; 18/32" tread depth
  • 77 / 81 lbs
Honestly I was set on getting KM3's but leaning towards the G003's recently. More true to size, I like the "D" load rating (which the 12.5" KM3 also has). I can get a better deal on the G003 or 13.5" KM3 vs. the 12.5" so was leaning more that way but not 100%.

Thought about the legendary Toyo MT 37x12.5 but thinking I"ll try a newer tire since the TOYOs have been out for a while....hmm there's probably a reason for that.

You could not find an E rated tire you like? I chose option 4 (Toyo) but it’s your thread so the GOO3 is the runner up.

OP check out some Nitto's
I've got Nitto Terra Grappler G2's 35-12.5/ 20. They've got 30K on them and 65% tread left. I'd say look at the Ridge Grappler M/T. JMHO

I'm not opposed to an E tire. I thought I wanted an E at first but the more I thought about it a D makes more sense for my power wagon. If everyday driving is in the 40's PSI I would likely need to inflate to get the higher load rating when pulling something. With a D tire you are much closer to the max load rating if running psi in the 40s so there is no real need to inflate when you are pulling a load. So in the KM3 example above the load rating at say 40 psi is much higher for the D tire vs. E tire.

It seems all the 37x12.5 mud tires are D rated and most of the 37x13.5 are E rated and total load is lower. I think Toyo may be an exception to this where their 13.5" wide (really 14.5") tire has a higher rating than their 12.5". This is all for 17" wheel size. If I get the Toyo I would get their 12.5" D tire....not wanting to go super wide at 14.5".

My Dad and brother in law run the Ridge Grapplers. They both like them, actually my brother in law was trying to convince me to get those but I'm wanting a true MT. Almost got stuck on my property on my ATs last week. Had to really get on the gas to get loose. I have run Nitto MT previously.

My cousin is running the KM3 (black Toyota) and ridge grapplers on the GMC and Ford trucks in this pic.

I have the KM3 on my wagon, 37x12.5r18. With the 18" wheel both the 13.5 and the 12.5 are Load E. I really like to able to run 35psi to 40psi and still have a supportive sidewall but I get your discussion above about having to air up 25psi.

Any way, I have 5k mi on the KM3, came from two sets of 35" Mickey MTs, and so far the KM3 is an outstanding tire on my wagon. Not familiar with the G003 so I can't compare the two but I can say that I would fully endorse the KM3, on and off road.

The only thing that I will change next set is I will get the 13.50 width. As you know, the tire is sized conservatively for a 37, with that and due to the tread/sidewall corner being beveled like 45 deg instead of the 90 deg corner the 12.5 looks closer to 11.5.

More importantly the 13.5 is $120 cheaper then the 12.5, at least in the r18.

I would and will do it all again but only with the 37x13.5 km3.

With your kind of research, your not going to be disappointed with either choice.

Enjoy

I had a set of Yokohama MT and one blew apart on me going down the interstate. Big chuck out of one of the grips disintegrated.. look up some YouTube videos on the yoko MTs.

I like the 18" KM3 load rating better than the 17". for the 13.5" wide tires the 18" KM3 has 24% more load capability vs. 17" wheel tires so like you say you can run lower pressure and have that sidewall support. Almost seems like the 18" tires are made for HD trucks while the 17" are for half tons or jeeps. Who am I kidding I'm not towing anything so the 37x13.5/3195@ 75 psi is enough...same as stock tires but at 10 psi higher. I did notice the 9.5" tread width for the 12.5" wide tire so thanks for confirming these "look" narrower....a good fit for stock wheels like some run.

Man that doesn't look good! I noticed this was on his dually and on the rear tires so maybe not meant for towing but still should not be doing that.

Thanks for the input. Making me rethink the Yokohama's....especially since the same thing happened to you.

I think I'm between the Toyo MT (37x12.5) and KM3 (37x13.5) now. There's a great deal on the 37x13.5s KM3s right now.

I don't wanna look on my own, I paid $480 per for the 12.5 wide that is advertised price, before all the yummy add on taxes, disposal fees etc.

But if you would, please share what kinda stompn deal the 13.5s are going for? I think I might go get a five pack if it's right. I think It may feel even better driving around on a bad ass $300 tire then bad ass $500 tire, especially when it's the same tire. I mean really, what's an inch between friends? Same tire, only maybe better.

Could someone please call my wife and explain to her that 'yes' I'm serious, and 'yes' all these things are necessary? Actually use the language 'essential' and 'trucks matter' as much possible. Thanks man!

Dang McBroom, that's a lot a pressure on me now, I might get stage-fright and tell you that I really drive a Prius and I just front so I can hang here with dudes and their badass trucks. :) (That's all true but the Prius and the front'n)

My sig is getting big enough if it were anything other than my truck I would delete it for being annoying buuuut it's my truck,

OP my sincerest apologies on the near thread-jack, but most of these are the 37x12.5r18 km3 and I thought you might like to see a Wagon with a possibility of your current decision.

They climb well, trail well, look well (??), Etc. Actually they perform great! Three heavily modified 4x4 Jeep's, Cherokee style, saw the km3's rocket up that steep and came to show what's up, all three didn't make it more than halfway, all three backed down and went around.

When I cleared the break-over a Toyota driver came running over, he was shaking harder than me, and said halfway up my front wheels left the ground. Not so sure if that's what happened, but at that point in the climb I thought I was going over backwards and completely left the throttle, then backing down flashed through my mind, no way was I going to reverse that steep, not with the crowd that gathered either. so I macked it again, she roared, 4 low, both axles locked, the km3's bit and bit hard. I had to slam on my brakes I cleared so hard. There was no doubt. I wasn't even aired down, street psi. One of my Wagons favorite moments, all with her new km3 sandals on.

I don't think it's necessary to say how long I sat at the bottom, wishing I was invisible, but I will hint that it was probably the longest my truck has ever idled. :)7207bc66f5ab9d08c4b9efed9a683d0e.jpg0ec0659db9626176dc4d250bdb46cff7.jpge9e8d7b6800ba17d626f2e657db38981.jpg127715162d2776430c5601eb2b5a4ed8.jpg2e6c30ec3931fcc22a6d463d68de6239.jpg725405e94936e68f29e5432873dec2cd.jpgda9855bb2af50e3d9b222eba43749703.jpgac5d63750433c28d333aefb4bde5846e.jpg

I'll send you a pm but they are within 1% of the bad ass tire you mention in 18" wheel size. Even cheaper for 17" 37x13.5 size.

If you're already rolling on some 37x12.5's I wouldn't buy new ones for such a small difference for basically the same tire! We're only talking 8% wider. Put that $$ to some other use on the truck...my opinion.

I have seen it and its a badass truck, hope he doesnt mind some of the truck ****. We had a great time at a 4x4 park
Hey y'all, Meister climbed that steep first. It was sic and I'll be straight if had not been there, no way in hell would I have bellied up to that thing if Meister hadn't rocked it first. Ok so he nails it, I'm cool w giving him Sicky Nicky climber award., But I sat their too damn long, I didn't wanna, that thing was steep, but onlookers became a part of the scene. Meister standing out in the edge looking down, "just don't Hesitate" he says. " This one's a lot a throttle".
Which to me meant I had to commit all the truck for any chance, nausea.

Then he goes and climbs this granite stair case that only the fruit loops in Jeep's are willing to tip toe into. Nuts, I was like, "I'm satieted bro, I'm good, but I'd be happy to spot you" the pics don't do the stairs justice, even close. Did him dirty tho, and missed the recording op when he redpointed the steep. I just stood there with my camera in my hand pointed at the ground. Thinking "oh ****",

But to this day grateful to have chance to drive with Meister. 4x4 is a blast but 4x4 with your buddies and their Wagon. Even better Great time. And I think that might be a big part of that little pow wow out in Utah desert - PWIM. Can't even imagine the energy.

Thanks for the opportunity to share OP, much appreciated. 6c0493a29e4939dd00369003cbd87906.jpg
