What is the largest tire you guys have run on a 17x8 inch ( I think that is the width of my rims) rim, with out loosing all your low end torque. I know it is a silly and vague question so trollers please be kind and resist the urge. I have 265-70-17 on now, i am thinking about going to 285-70-17. only an inch more in diameter i believe. I know on my 2000 f-150 I went from a ridiculous 235 to a 265 and it killed the low end. But in it's defense it only had a little 4.6 v8. So i am just trying to learn from ya'lls trial and error.

My truck is listed below.

Thanks again for any usable input.

Given that there are sooo many 17" tire configurations out there, it may be best to look for one that closely matches the weight of your current tires.

As an example, the BFG KO2 35 - 12.50x18 weighs 67.59 pounds

The equivalent Toyo, same size, etc..., weighs 77 pounds, almost 10 pounds more.

So it's not a matter of size as it is weight. Get your current tire weight spec then pick 2 or 3 tires you like and get their weight specs.

It's not just weight. Any increase in tire diameter is going to reduce the torque applied to the ground. Torque is after all, force multiplied by the lever arm. Taller tire = longer lever arm = less torque to ground. It's physics.

Well I went with 285/70-17 NITTO TERRA GRAPPLER G2

The weight is not much more that stock, and it gives me a 1 inch increase in diameter.
That should fill the leveled wheel well a little better than the 265/70-17 I currently run.

3.55 is a pretty good gear. I don't think you've hurt the tq much--it may be barely noticeable.

I have a 16 Ram 4x4 Sports CC but I have the 3.92 gears. I like the lower gear as they suit my driving style better. I still have stock size tires(20") but I think there will be little change in tq. if I go to a little bigger size tire.

They
What gear do they come with? I have 3.55

Thanks for the input
They come with 3.92’s but the stock 20x9’s and 275/60/20’s are a smidge taller but also a smidge narrower.

There are folks running 37’s with 3.21’s...........33’s with 3.55’s will be just fine.
