Looks great, no one would see it on my truck lol
Suggestion, take a bold felt pen and write 4:56 across it in a clear but causal way and then clear coat it again.

*****, BUSTED, Greg, if you look close you can see where I wrote 4.56 with a paint pen and did the auburn as well silver and blue but after I thought again........so ***.....hence the comment resand 320, re-paint..

Haha good for you, I'm more into paint parts black and would use a junkyard yellow parts marker to casually make a point.

Think its a few diff ways to do it. I have heard of driving 10 miles then stopping and letting them completly cool, do that twice then grandpa drive for 500 then change fluids and let em eat. Danny had spoke of his shop doing it another way which might be better, I give ya props for beaing able to not mash em.

LOl, You got it pretty well Right Kenneth. I'm gonna Talk now in Kilometers and put the Miles in Brackets!

As per the " Gear Set Directions" and instructions by the Shop owner (since I do live outta town) on the HWY this is what I got/did so far!

Drive 10-15 Km (10 Miles) between 50-70 KM/HR (30-40) then stop and let her cool down for min 30 Min (he said 20 was good, I drove 9 Km then stopped at Wal-Mart and used 40min cooldown.

It says to Repeat two more Times, then drive a total of 500 Km (300) taking it easy which states (No Towing or Hot-Rodding). If you Tow add another 500 KM before hooking up to a trailer.

So left Wal-mart and drove in town about another 10Km (6 miles) then stopped at the car wash and let her cool down again for about 20 minutes.

Left there and hit the highway and drove home another 45 Km (28-29 miles) and kept the speed between 100 and 125 (60-70) as instructed, revs were 2200 to 2500 RPM.

Stopped at home and let it cool again for a good hour!

Drove the kid to work and carried on to my work and made a u-turn then headed home (speeds 70-100 KM) (40-60 MPH) and that was about 19 KM round trip (11-12 miles).

Its now gonna cool in the driveway for a couple hours then I will take my movie back to the store and do another cycle as per above (19km round trip at 70-90 KPH).

That will give me 5 Heat cool cycles for today and about 110 Km done out of 500 (20%).

I have opted not to exceed 2500 RPM or 125 KPH. I only had one small spin turning a corner but it was momentary and revs hit 2500.

Changing the Fluids after the breakin is not necessary and the warranty is 12 Months Unlimited Mileage on the Gears and 3 year exchange on the Auburn.

So that said I prolly won't hit the Track this year as the Installers are a sponsor at our Track. LOL. The Auburn Book states to change the Fluid at 7500 miles or Manufacturers rec. Interval, so that said I will stick to the 30 K interval (18 K miles) but will prolly do it sooner. Interesting enough the Auburn Friction Modifier was not used as it gets clumpy and cloudy in storage hence they used Ford Stuff which is listed and recommended in the Auburn Book.

So I'll report back tommorow with some pics and carry on with any further discussion!
Wifes Grandma Died so thats why i haven't been on here last few days and I am Cheif Bottle washer and dog sitter tonight!

Later Danny

Danny,
You are much more patient than I and I have mixed feelings about break-in. The mechanical side of me says the heat cycles are critical. And I did pretty much as you did, drove about 20 miles and let her cool, then drove 50 miles and let it cool again. And finally did another thirty at haighway speed and let her sit overnight. Next ran her about 12 miles to warm everything up. I checked each stop with a temp gage and the temps never spiked or got if I remember correctly over 140F. Then I lite her up a few times to see how it worked. The gear set run quieter than the OEM 3:55 which tells me there was a little too much back lash on the original gears. Now my question, why is it when you buy a new vehicle no ones mentions "Oh don't forget to break-in the differentials"?? And Danny it is absolutely essential you change the gear oil after break-in (500-600 miles) and inspect the back lash. The gear oil will be slightly discolored and contaminated from the initial run-in and you don't want your bearings running in it. I run highway speeds at 2100 rpm and would have no issues turning 2400- 2500 at speed. sweeeet!

Yeah I ran my truck in 4x4 for 15 minutes on jack stands just to get some temp in the diffs monitored the temp then took it for a drive. Nice and easy for about 110 miles all while monitoring the temperature doing various heat and cool cycles. No temp spikes so it was good time to hammer down. I did how ever wait 5 to 600 miles to tow though.

Everything went smooth. Rear took 6.6 hrs.

2011-01-07141408.jpg

Front took 7.5 hrs as it had to be removed and built on the bench.

Good thing I provided a new short diff axle as the old one was chewed like a carrot and had ruined the 1/2 shalf Spicer Pot splines, so I ran them over a new one (1/2 Shaft).

2011-01-07122458-1.jpg

Last Feb i had replaced both half shafts on the truck and the other longer front axle which was worn out. At the time I figured the other real short axle shaft was serviceable so I attached a new 1/2 shaft to it. So I guess i forgot the O ring as it was also full of water and rust, so an Important thing those rubber O-rings. I guess all the Data-Log Runs didn't help and I did notice a shakin from hell the last time I did that in 4 HI.

2011-01-07151618.jpg
2011-01-07151608.jpg

The N/S One, which would barely hold the 1/2 shaft spicer pot, and with 4 new clips we know the axles won't come out , nor the 1/2 shafts slip-off.

Danny,
Have you tapped it yet? ......

Well, Sorta. The roads are all ICE everywhere. I went out today and am about halfway done the break-in. I let her go about half throttle from a rolling stop and went sideways and after i got traction kinda spunout again up to about 4 grand, backed off and let her shift through at about 3K. Kinda wimpy but i got an Idea of what it will be able to do. As soon as I get some decent pavement I will let her rip for sure, meantime will continue to granny around.

At 77 MPH I am reving about 2400. (Don't worry bout my CEL its the P300 caused by the Cam, Nothing to worry about).

2011-01-07142545.jpg

Other pics where blurry, but at 80 MPH she was about 2500 RPM, and at the speed limit 110 KPH (68.3 MPH) she was hitting the HEMI Sweet Spot (2200).

2011-01-07141518.jpg

2011-01-07122430.jpg

So thats it for now. I got new tires and rims picked out for the nicer weather and will start another Post when that time comes. The new Tire size will give me an overall height of 34.4 Inches over my current 32.6 Inch Height which should put me revs just where i want them and be able to fit the truck pending installation of future lift kit!

BTW, I have still yet to receive the Big Cheque that was supposably on its way back in December (Post#1) so I had to find other means, anyhow we Got er Dun and thanks to the Mrs. on this one!

So now on to that B&M Shifter Project and got Cab Lights to install!

Next Purchase for my Truck is the HELLWIG Sway Bar., Front end alignement and Rancho Shocks up front.

Danny,
Your speed/rpm is perfect. I hope you rethink the bigger tires. The closer to the ground you are the more high speed stability you'll have. That truck is fast, becareful not to make it dangeously fast. Your guys took twice the time it took for my guy to do the rear. I arrived at the shop at 0800 and we went to lunch at 11:30. I'm jealous you are working on your truck and getting things done. Good for you..
