Before you buy a Ram 1500, check out this link: http://www.ramforum.com/f38/4x4_problem_ram_2013_8-speed-40753/

The newer Ram 1500's with the BW 44-44 transfercase, don't have a true 4wd system. Even in the 4wd Lock, and 4WD Low settings, the transfer case doesn't lock. It is an on demand system that stays in 2wd, and only engages the front axle when slippage occurs.

Depending on how you use your truck, you might be in for a big disappointment, coming from a F150 to a Ram.

I just traded in my '05 F150 Lariat for a brand new '14 Ram Big Horn and I'm glad I did it. Not sure what year your F150 is but if you know about the 2 piece spark plug they developed and how much a pain in the ass to change. After I attempted to change mine (broke 7 out of the 8) I had to bring it to the dealer and $4800 later I just wanted to get rid of it. Don't get me wrong, I loved my F150 but I love my Ram even more.

I didn't have the problems you have had, but just the cost of keeping my95 F-250 running is making me ready to change to a Ram 2500HD,

Man I'm so annoyed that all the carmakers are jumping on this trend, especially because of the reason why they're doing it. Fuel economy to cater to the urban cowboy crowd who don't buy trucks for anything other than having a big vehicle with awd for commuting from the suburbs to the city. Are the 2500 and 3500 getting the same xfer case? I would hope not. Although you'd still lose the ability to save a few bucks by getting the 1500 even if the others do have true 4wd

1500 only. Then only if they have the on-demand transfer case (AWD Position). The part-time cases are fine.

Hope the OP comes back to this thread because I'm a long-time Ford truck owner, F350, a couple of Sport Tracs when I was in the DC area, and lastly as a 9 year owner of an F150 4x4. Good trucks all but, in a word, boring!

After years of Ford ownership, I needed something with a lot more flair and the Ram 1500 Longhorn Edition absolutely rocks it here in South Texas. Saw one of the beautiful brown beasts online, did a couple of days of research, and then a bit of online pricing from a half dozen local metro dealers.

Found a 2014 Longhorn at a local but rural RAM dealership through their website. It is completely loaded (4x2 only) with 14K miles for about $4K less than the metro dealerships. Called to check the availability of the truck on Saturday morning, drove 45 minutes to the dealership, and drove off with it an hour and a half later. Even did the financing and insurance from one of their computer stations (went with my credit union at 2.99 percent instead of the dealer's financing options).

My wife absolutely loves this truck and together we're figuring out all of the electronics (8AN is very impressive).

We're looking forward to many years of great memories and adventures with our new-to-us RAM 1500 Longhorn! :favorites13:
