Hey folks,

I'm new around here and unfortunately my loyal SUV for the past 10 years (non-Dodge, sorry  ) met an early demise at the hands of a 75 year old last week. Looking into replacing it, I've been looking at some pickups and came across one for sale by a local dealer I find pretty trustworthy, with a price that doesn't kill me (especially with the insurance payout) and wanted to get your thoughts on it.

Hopefully this link is allowed, I'm not trying to advertise (the exact opposite actually, I don't want someone else to get it :roflsquared: ).

Couple things about it - The milage seems good and while it's only the 4.7, I don't drive much and expect to use it for its actual purpose of being a truck even less... heresy, I know, but I'm at least being honest about it. Based on KBB, it seems like they're asking at the top of the dealer price range which is to be expected, what would you experienced folks pay for it in the state it's in? Are there any common issues the 2006 gets at around 100k miles that I should be wary of?

And anything else you can think to point out, I'd be appreciative. I haven't turned my mind on to the car buying game in so long since I was planning on driving my vehicle into the ground before someone drove their's into its side.

Thanks,
Exp.

My dad has an 08 4.7 around 90k miles no problems yet. I know a few others who had to change out ball joints on these trucks. If I was u I would offer them about $2000-$2500 less and go from there. That is a good looking truck

Cheers, thanks. Yeah semi-disposable things like ball joints I'm not too worried about. My previous vehicle (an Explorer) had a common issue with the tranny going out at around 80k, which it did, and luckily I was right in the dealer's warranty when it happened. Things like that are what I'm most wary of.

I haven't heard of any trans issues on 3rd gens. Unlike my 2nd gen like my truck but I've been lucky with mine no major problems with over 150k miles

Check all the electronics and especially the HVAC controls. Make sure the temperature changes correctly, the vent selection changes, and the recirc door works.

Price does seem a little high for a 4.7 slt with over 100k miles. Looks to be well taken care of though. If you don't get a good deal, look for one with a 5.7 as well. The 4.7 generally isn't a bad motor but you really get the same gas mileage as a hemi but less power and towing capacity out of it.

Looks like a decent truck and as is always the case they are at the top of the pricing tier.

But that can be negotiated.

3rd gen Rams are pretty bullet proof and transmissions are not a problem. I'd focus on the general condition of the truck, the service history and electronics. Treat is just like any other used vehicle that is 10 years old with over 100K miles on it when you inspect it.

As far as the 4.7L engine goes, there are no major flaws but the power of the 4.7L is barely adequate to move the truck. If you plan on towing above 5K then I'd suggest getting the 5.7L equipped truck if you can find one.

Good luck!
