Hey guys,
I'm looking to lift my 2005 Ram 1500 4x4. Recently I've been fabricating up some new bumpers, sliders, and headache rack for my truck, and now I need a lift to match and help me get over some terrain when I'm off roading.
I've taken it off roading a few times and I always end up getting stuck on the trailer hitch. The new bumpers will give me a bit more room, but I think I'm gonna need a lift to get through anything more than the trails I'm hitting now. Bit more experience on how to approach hills will probably help as well
So how high can I lift it and still have a useable road truck, and what's the best way to do it? I'm seeing kits on ebay for a grand to go up 5 inch in the front and 3 inch in the back and a 5in kit on Rough Country that looked pretty good. I also have a full metal fabrication shop and CNC plasma machine at my disposal so things like shock extenders or blocks are easy for me to do myself. (If anyone needs any CNC cutouts or anything made hit me up)
Another thing to consider is I just rebuilt the entire front end a year ago. A setup that would let me use as much of those parts as possible would be best since I've already redone those. New tie rod ends, rims, tires, brakes + hardware, rotors, bearings, shocks and ball joints.
I'm thinking the tires are probably going to be too small if I go for the full 5in lift. I have another project I can use em on, but would the truck be unstable at that height with the smaller tires until I can get some decent bigger ones?
