You don't NEED the y pipe, but it is fairly cheap, and in my opinion is the biggest upgrade you can do to the truck exhaust wise and performance wise. I mean the y pipe in there is like a pinched off zit... :p if you just want sound, and aren't pushing for the most performance just get the mufflex muffler you want, get it installed and call it a day. I mean the mufflex will also add some better flow as well compared to the stock muffler

i cant find a picture of the stock exhaust and i havent been under my own truck yet. im thinking it will be cheaper and better performance wise to get the y-pipe and the muffler and get a shop to weld it together.

can you tell me what inlets and outlets i need for both the y-pipe and the muffler (its going to be hooked up to the stock exhuast)

edit. the reviews on the mufflex on this forum makes it pretty tempting, now i gotta decide if i wanna just do the mufflex and get mostly a noise upgrade or do like i stated above and get both hmm. IS the y-pipe bolted on? of will that have to be cut off and a new one welded on

sorry for the questions, if i had a visual i cwould know lol

A few have done something similar. Like I took everything off from the start of the muffler back

Not sure what magnaflow you heard but mine is way louder than stock. It is just as loud as the flow 40 at WOT. It's pretty mellow at idle. And the mag has a lot less drone than the flow did.

They are notorious for rusting from the inside out...honestly, if you're going for sound, get a Flowmaster...if you want performance along with sound, go with Magnaflow, Aero Turbine, Dynomax or Borla...

I spent a couple days trying to decide what muffler to go with. I'm not a big fan of magnaflow (I tried my best to like it bc everyone around here raves about them). Flowmaster was my 1st choice but since this is my daily driver I didn't want highway drone that chambered mufflers tend to produce. I ended up buying a Borla 40349 muffler (they're only $124 on amazon right now) and ill pay $50 or so to get it welded in at a local shop. The 40349 borla is a Pro XS, the quiet/smooth sounding borla muffler. If I want loud I have a Cobra in the garage that shakes the neighbor's house lol
