Well im seriously considering making the 3 hour trek to the drag strip tomorrow night and am looking for any pointers or tips from guys that have run at the track before.

Ive only ever made 2 passes down the 1/4 mile and they were 2 years apart. So if I do decide to make the trip down I'd like a few pointers.

Im already planning on ditching as much weight as I can before I go and unfortunately I'll be forced to run on my 20's and nearly bald street tires but they do seem to hook up not to bad considering what they are.

Anybody got any tips for launching and whatnot?

I only know what little I know from my ****** street launches with the 76: try to launch at about 3k rpm. Torque peak is pretty close to there and any higher and you'll spin the tires. Do a good burnout and know when to pussyfoot it. lol

Good luck man, remember pictures, time slips and videos if at all possible. :D

Been a long time since I raced at the track but here are some ideas.

Lose all the extra weight you can from the truck, including the spare tire, jack & tire tools. The less gas in the tank the better, me I would be under 1/4 tank. Remove the windshield washer bottle.
Rear tire psi; start by going down by 5 psi until you are hooking up better.
Front shocks; find a set of 90/10 or a set of toasted shocks and install them.
To find your best launch rpm; apply the brake bring up the rpms until the back tires just start to break free, take note of the rpm. Launch rpm is 100 less than noted rpm.
Burn outs: you will have to test if this is good with the street tires or if it hinders you. Some street tire's hook better cold, so try both ways.

Have fun and be safe.

Thanks guys. It's looking like tonight is still ago and as of right now I might have buddy talked into bringing his ford lightning down to as long as he can get out of work on time.

I just wish I had've planned this out a little more ahead of time so I could've ditched the tonneau cover and seats then to. I'm going to go down to the farm tonight before I go and see if I have a couple of tires on 16's I could throw on the truck for tonight. I don't think I have any with much tread left but I could swap them onto the fronts and move my front tires (29" vs current 31") to the back. If I get home early enough lol

Me I would be looking for a used set of 31x10 slicks just for the weekend, who cares if they only have a few passes left on them.
