When I'm driving on residential streets (~20mph), and get to fairly steep downhills, the transmission downshifts really hard to slow me down. I have to really give a lot of gas to get it to shift back up.

It's really awkward.

Is there any way to adjust this or turn it off completely?

Anybody else experience the same?

Disable TC? Pull ABS fuse, might freak out a lot of the nannies...

Are you running in tow/haul mode? That causes engine breaking. If not, you likely have to take it in.

Sounds like Hill Descent Control rather than something being wrong with the truck.

I would actually like to disable this feature as well (without voiding warranty etc) would turning off TC actually do this? I haven't been able to try yet but I've posted it up on fuel sipping forums to see as well. I like to pop mine in neutral to coast down hills but am afraid to do so with the eclectronic transmission. My old chevy (96) used to "put itself into a neutral - more or less" going down a hill, totally unsafe but great for fuel economy.

Turning off traction control is done with the button on the dash which won't void your warranty.

Pulling the ABS fuse as I mentioned may, or may not work, I just know doing so freaks out a lot of the electronic nannies in the truck, so it is worth a shot. Doing that won't void your warranty either, but if you take your truck in to the dealer, better put it back in. I left it out when they were replacing a half shaft on mine, and they ended up ordering an ABS module, and valve assembly before I found out. Fortunately I found out in time to prevent the install.

Also, both of these are super simple things to try. You tend to get a lot of opinions, or bad info on forums, so for easy things you should just give it a shot, and see for yourself. Then if someone ever asks again in the future, you can be a source of reliable information garnered from firsthand experience! :)

I like how the dealership ordered probably $400 in parts without first checking a $0.50 fuse.

I know, and I had explicitly told them the truck was ONLY in for the front left half shaft. That is the problem though, the service department in these dealerships anymore have NO communication with the customer, or vice versa. If they had ASKED I would have happily told them to ignore it, and that the fuse was even still in the fuse box, just laying down at the front if they wanted to put it back in.

Whatever though, they got me in, and out, they didn't hassle me, and there were NO complaints about my lift when they did the CV under warranty, so I really shouldn't ***** about it. All this in Manhattan too.

My truck does a similar thing when shifting from 2-1 when I'm manually shifting. About 1 out of 4 times tranny just seems to panic and the rear wheels actually skid/chirp on the pavement momentarily. I never thought about the traction control.... that's a good suggestion. I asked the dealer about it and they said it should be below about 20-22MPH before shifting in to first. That seems strange since it will hold in first up to 35mph when accelerating.
