Hey guys, having a problem with my truck. The battery keeps draining, i have to jump start the truck everyday and it will last me the whole day, but the next day I have to do it all over again. Took it to advance to do the battery test/alternator test and "supposedly" everything checked out. Here is the pic.IMG_20130308_152855_zps4dcf615b.jpg IMG_20130308_152848_zps60d3f2cc.jpg

thank you, in advance. Sorry if I'm in the wrong section

Sounds like you have a pretty significant parasitic drain. I would put a milti meter on the battery and start yanking fuses one at a time til you find the culprit.

Thanks for the quick reply. Are they right at advance, according to the picks? What would I do if I find the culprit?

I'm never one to trust their "on the vehicle" testing mahines. I always pull mine off, rather it be an alternator or battery and have it bench tested. But, with that being said...do you have an alarm or anything installed?

That could very well be the cuplrit...make sure you have a good charge the battery and if you can, disconnect the alarm for a couple days and see if the symptoms are still there.

Even though the alarm has been there for more than 5 years. I'll try that though. Any other suggestions besides the multimeter and alarm? Thank You. I was getting desperate, cause 2 days ago advanced charged my battery, used it yesterday all day and its dead now.

It's extremely possibe. Even factory installed alarms can cause parasitic drain over time. If that doesnt resolve it, then resort back to the multimeter and fuse pulling method...it's the easiest way I know of to hunt a parasitic drain.

Thank you SmokedRam, will definitely try that, just disconnected the alarm, and taking battery to advance, I'll update once I know something.

So it wasn't the alarm, so I went ahead and bought a multimeter, is this the one I need? IMG_20130309_195600_zps1663e959.jpg
also the battery needs to be fully charged right?

Yeah that's what you need, you will use the A(amperage) settings while hooked up on the battery to see if you have a current draw while the key is off. Once hooked up ,and seeing there is a draw, start pulling fuses out to see if the mA drawn goes down to find your culprit.

Battery should have a decent charge on it while you do it so everything is at operating voltage is there is a draw, anything around the standard 12v will be fine.

Sorry to ask, BUT I know the black lead should go to the COM, and the red should go to the 10A?
What about the dial? Or whatever it's called.

Yeah, your wires are in the correct spot for measuring amps. The settings you will use are the ones labeled under ~A. If you every need to measured voltage or resistance your red wire will go on the fused side.

Thanks for the solid advice guys, however I think I the battery was the problem, I was getting the battery tested @ advanced, the battery is an autocraft gold, and they kept telling me that the battery was good and that it was charging well, so out of embarrassment, cause they had charged 4 times before, I went to autozone and within 10 min i get a call back that I have a bad cell. I go back to advance a little pissed, get a new battery which I haven't hooked up yet, I'm still going to do the drain test to see what i get. Thanks everyone, I'll update once I know something.

hope you get this figured out man i know how it feels to have a problem like this going on i had my 2012 dying out every night also. The worst part was the dealer was trying to blame my hids for this and saying that i must have spliced some wire wrong when the hids were plug and play :angry94: anyways it came down to me telling them that i wanted proof that the hids were the problem before i paid them any money to fix it and 20 min later they call me back that they found the problem and it was some module that was causing the problem and it was under warranty :whymewhyme: but it had drained my battery so many times that i guess it killed it because i had to take it back a week later to get fixed and turned out when they were trying to test it their machine broke down because of the battery being bad somehow lol in the end new module and battery and im having no problems anymore
