I've watched dozens of youtube videos comparing the 14" Magnaflow to the 18" Magnaflow. I plan on just doing the muffler replacement. My biggest question is noise at idle while warming the truck up in the morning. I have remote start and live in a subdivision, sometimes I have to get up at 4:30 AM for work. I plan on taking advantage of the remote start during the winter and I don't want to **** my neighbors off. Is there a big difference between the two at idle? It's hard to tell watching videos. How much louder is it than stock at idle?

Well in that case the 18" will be your best bet, I just install my 18" and right at start up I think that your neighbor will be able to hear it until about the first minute or two. It seem like that early in the morning or last at night the night will echos sound farther. At idle on the 18" it just a little rumble just over stock so that's want be a problem. I can't comment on the 14" but maybe that some of the guys and gals that have it will chime in. The 14" is more aggressive than the 18" and I'm all most sure that at start up.

Welcome to RF and good luck.

I've had both... on my last ram, i had the 18" and my neighbor said she could hear it when i started it up in the morning, (she actually used it as an alarm). I have the 14" now, so I'm sure she can hear it, but i don't get up as early anymore. As far as the idle, after the initial start up, it's pretty mild.

The style of muffler is going to dictate a lot of the sound absorption at 'low flow' (idle).

While the 14" will be louder, it is still going to have a rather mellow tone. I would highly recommend the 14" if you want a performance sound. I bought the 18" and I don't like it it's toooo damned quiet.

Hell, buy the 14", if it's too loud, we can trade!

Thanks, sounds like the 14" is for me.

i've heard the 14 and the 18. At start up the 14 isn't that much louder.

Get the 14" unit. It ain't bad at idle after the first couple of minutes during a cold start.

If you're leaving in the front muffler it wont make too much difference between the two. I have an 18 on mine and when I was installing it i held it up behind the front muffler and it didn't lower the volume so its pretty much up to you.

I just had my local exhaust shop chop my resonator off and put on a 14" magnaflow muffler. Everything welded for just over $200. The mufflex kit is just a bolt on unless you've got a welder yourself.

Not yet, spare funds and time have been going towards landscaping right now. Hard to convince the wife a muffler on a 3 week old truck is more important, lol. I have a week off end of April / beginning of May. Think I'm gonna schedule it then.

Not a bad price. I'm gonna have a shop do mine as well.
