I'm almost à 60 000KM on my truck, and my dealer tells me I have to change the front/rear axle fluid at 60 000KM. I'm ok with that, but want to do it myself... So they tell me that if something goes wrong with the axle in the future, they will not be able to tell if I change the fluid correctly! Can they really void my warrenty if I do it by myself? I mean I'm pretty sure that I'll be doing a better job than them in the first place. I was willing to buy the fluid from them and all...

How many is doing this by themself? Just tired of paying money for thing I can easily do myself!

Its not hard, Im sure there are tons of DIYs and videos on the process.

Its like changing your oil yourself....they cant prove you did or didnt do it, so keep good records (receipts of the fluid you bought, etc). Some people go to the extreme of taking pics of a newspaper dated the same day you change the fluid with the new fluid in the pic.

In the end its up to the dealer to prove that something broke because of lack of maintenance, which I suppose if they get enough "help" from FCA they can do that. This is why I trust dealerships about as far as I can throw their building.

Never had issues with this dealer, really good service. They change the whole motor on warranty! I think there just trying to make money witch is normal, but saying "well if you have problems with the axle there's no way for us to know if you did it right" just really pissed me off!

Typical dealer BS. I remember once I replaced the spark plugs in my gf's Acura Legend. Her dad brought it in for an oil change the next month and they came out with a laundry list of things that needed to be fixed, including "incorrectly installed spark plugs".

Uhh....Im not stupid, the car ran better after I put the new plugs in, but they were installed wrong? Yeah, I dont think so!

If you had some kind of catastrophic failure that was going to cost the dealer/FCA a huge amount of money, they will of course try to find a way out of it. So he's actually not completely lying to you lol. Simple truth is you just would have to have some real bad luck to end up in that situation, but stranger things have happened.

Well already had a motor replace, talk about real bad luck haha

What was the reason for engine replace? Did they fish around for oil change records etc?

Had a whistle sound coming from engine bay since day 1. Thought it was normal until I sat in my brother's Ram. Brought it in at around 50 000KM, and chrysler said to change the whole motor. Always had my oil change done there so they did not ask any questions.

By law they have to PROVE you were negligent and that negligence cause the failure.

Yep. Save the receipts. I did my rear, center and front diff few months ago. The rear was for sure a lot darker than the center and front diffs. Probably could have waited on those but it doesn't hurt anything. I did them all at 35K.

Wanted to go with Redline, but hard to find in Canada and expensive. If i'm correct, I should run 75w85 in the front and 75w140 in the back. Wanted to go with Amsoil, but they only have 75W90 is that ok for the front?

Have you checked the interval in your manual? That's about 1/2 of what my 2012 's change recommendations is unless you are towing a lot, doing taxi service or snowplow duty.
After I checked my manual and/or the CD that came with the truck, I'd make him show me where FCA says it must be done at that interval. A lot of dealers use fluid changes as a profit center and some aren't very ethical about doing the change when its recommended. Many use ole Gaffer knowledge from the '50's to scare you into changing early--word to the wise.
