I have an 08 1500 with the 5.7. During the Christmas weekend freeze the MDS decided it didn't want to reactivate. I've ran an oil system flush, changed the oil, and inspected what I can see of the wires and connector. I've used a scanner to toggle the solenoids and can hear them clicking. At this point I'm not sure what is the issue. I'm sure it's not the solenoids since it happened with all 4 cylinders at the same time. Has anyone else had this issue or know what the problem may be?

I would research what preconditions are required before the MDS is enabled. Then monitor for those data points. It’s probably something not up to temperature.

Perhaps someone else more enlightened will know from memory what the condition requirements are.

Update, found a hole in the ignition, yellow, wire casing causing a short to ground. Taped it up and ran it away from the motor mount. Fired up all 8 cylinders.

So, just for clarification, your truck was only running on 4 cylinders until you identified and corrected this shorted yellow wire? And this shorted wire was located in the engine bay near the motor mounts?

Good work sorting that out so quickly and thanks for updating your thread to potentially assist others.

And welcome to Ram Forum. welcome.gif

How can you tell how many cylinders you are running on?

Could you post a photo of the wire / location? Thank you.
