I never did like the long silver antenna. I was considering replacing it with a stubby antenna, but i learned from another member that it can be snipped with no reception interference. So I cut it a little more than half of it off and painted it black.

Looks good I want to do this in place of my stubby antenna the reception just is too poor with it.

I bought a 7 inch black antenna on Ebay. A little shorter than yours is now.
I wanted to keep the stocker under the rear seat in case I want better reception when I go upstate to rural areas.

Several light coats of outdoor spray paint and topped it off with a few coats of clear.

Agreed, don't like the antenna. I use a electronic antenna mounted under the dash.

Now that looks good. I had issues with the antenna base on my 2002 getting loose and can tell my 2012 isn't going to be much, if any better. What did it cost to have the opening filled & painted and where did you find the antenna you are using now? How's the reception with it under the dash?

Typically in my area $300 will get a panel painted. I had a lot of work done at the same time on the tail gate, roll pan and various scratches not counting a couple extra coats of clear coat so I can't give the actual cost. The antenna amp I had installed at a Audio/Security store, it works ok , probably on par with the exterior antenna.
