We have only run them with 93 octane as it is the highest we have available here at our pumps. This will vary based on location, but I would run 90-93 if possible. These cams were designed for guys that want to go fast, and that means aggressive tuning, and higher octane fuel.
I'd imagine a tune would be needed to get the most out of the cam. If there were tuning issue that you stated, I'd imagine the tuner might have been the problem. Unless these trucks are different from the cars with vvt, the cars have no problems.Is a specific tune needed with this cam. If i remember correctly in the past someone was having all kinds of tuning issues with a cam install.
