Moving from BMW M4 back to Ram Sport 1500...'18 (with discounts) vs '19?

Congrats on the hydro blue. I got a similar hydro blue and came from an 2011 335d. Prefer it so much over the bimmer with the exception of the itch I can scratch.

Parking in Toronto is taking a bit of getting used to tho.

Yeah, parking is the major concern I have, but I rarely go downtown much anymore, so my biggest parking worry is actually Pearson Airport! I guess I'll see what that's like soon enough.

Funnily enough, my wife never liked the M4, and she thinks the truck is juvenile, but she likes it, and much prefers it over the BMW. I actually thought I might miss the M4 more after 24 hours and regret my decision, but that hasn't been the case at all. Again, in the summer, the M4 was nice to have, but with my bike that scratches most itches that it's not really an issue. I'm more looking forward to getting to ride more this summer, and having the truck as much as possible for the winter. I'm almost looking forward to next December....

Like the color....congrats on your new toy! Nice looking rig. How does it handle compared to a non modified Ram? Those tires look meaty, and the lift with all black looks great. See why you jumped. I just traded my 2WD Sport and couldn't find a 4WD equipped the way I wanted, so I grabbed a Laramie, but I still really love the looks of the Sport. Too bad they eliminated the model for 2019. From now on it will just be a trim package.

The last RAM I had was my 2004 1500 Limited (or was it SLT Laramie back then....it was a fully loaded 1/2 ton almost 15 years ago....?). Anyhow, the ride and handling of my '18 lifted RAM doesn't seem any different than what I can remember from 15 years ago. Obviously a much higher centre of gravity, but in my drives thus far, it hasn't felt any different than a "normal" pickup truck at all. No excessive body roll, no significant brake dive. I haven't tried to take any corners like I would in the M4, but it has handled everything I've thrown at it in this short period of time really well. Now that I think about it, I'm actually quite pleasantly surprised at how well it handles, given that it's a 6" lift on 35 inch off-road tires. The very first time I drove the truck on a test drive, it felt a little intimidating simply due to the ride height vs my M4. Ever since that drive, and even the one time my wife came with me, it has felt just like a normal, big pick-up truck (and before the 2004 Ram 1500 I had a 2000 Ram 2500 4x4 with the 8.0L V10 and a 6-speed for towing my boat).

There was a Limited Longhorn 2500 parked right beside my 1500 when I picked it up on Saturday....the 2500 was within an inch of overall height of my truck (eyeballing it, anyway). Based on actual published specs, (79.8 for LTD 2500, 4x4, vs 78.1 for 1500 Sport 4x4), it should be about 4.3" higher.

Anyhow, I'm liking it a lot thus far, and I'm sure I'll get used to parking it soon enough, and won't be sticking to the farthest spots away in any parking lots for long....

Congrats on the Ram. You got a pretty rare color. The interior quality of the Sport is not going to be as equal to the M4, but yes, with the Longhorn/Limited/Tungsten you would get that top quality interior. It is a known weakness of these trucks that the OEM projector quality sucks. Its just a halogen bulb. But even just upgrading to a better bulb helps. Also not too difficult to do an HID conversion.

I've driven to all 4 corners of the US from Minnesota in the last 4 years. I drive two 4500+ mile round trips per year...with that being said my RAM Rebel pickup was a dream on the highway last month during my trip to Palm Springs, CA from Minnesota and back.

The Hemi and 8-speed combo is a dream. So consistent...set the cruise and go. Comfortable, full size cab...sitting higher, overall feel. I love long trips in the RAM and can't wait for the next one! (June).

Congrats on your choice...looks like a great pickup! Love the color too!

That truck is really sharp! Congratulations on now having a vehicle that compensated for a small sack (just kidding. I used to say that about people driving trucks and I’m about to buy my second one). I had a BMW too, being from Europe, I appreciate the craftsmanship but in the US, service and maintenance adds up.

I’m actually in the same boat. Was considering getting a 2019, but as many have mentioned the discounts and rebates will be pretty much nonexistent. So, I might actually order a 2018 Sport.

It has both ventilated and heated seats right - and heated seats in the back too? And remote start? And are the seats all leather or just part leather?
I would go for a Laramie or a Longhorn (which I used to have - I’ll attach a pic), but the generation I’m from doesn’t appreciate chrome as much as a color matched truck.

Here is (what used to be) my baby. Got totaled because of an inattentive driver.

You don't need and M4 to scratch that itch, by the way. This may sound silly, but go test drive a Mazda 3, or a Ford focus, or a vw golf. There are plenty of cheap cars that will be fun to drive, at a fraction of the cost.

So, you could get a Ram and a toy for the same price as your M4.

My 2nd car is a 2017 John Cooper Works Mini Cooper. While clearly not an M4, the Mini offers lots of fun, speed and great gas mileage. Even the base Cooper 3 cylinder is a blast to drive. Fun to switch from the Titanic to the grocery cart.

Actually, I've seriously considered picking up a Ford Focus RS or VW Golf R (both with 6-spd stick) as a "toy" car to bomb around in, though I'm more likely to pick up a used BMW M2 in a couple of years to add to the stable instead. Any "toy" car I pick up would have to be a manual....

So I've had the truck for two weeks now, and honestly don't miss the BMW at all. I thought I would, initially, but I have to admit I much prefer driving the truck vs the M4. Even parking hasn't been the nightmare that I anticipated it would be. It's obviously not as easy as with the M4, but then again, I was always worried about my splitter when parking the M4, and with the truck, I generally don't worry about curbs at all.

With spring slowly arriving, I'll be pulling the bike out of winter storage, and that will satisfy most of my summer itches anyway. Quite honestly though, I love driving this truck.

So far the truck has been ceramic coated, Pedal Commander installed (still on the fence about it), and I've picked up some new LEDs / HIDs for the low-beam / high-beam / fogs. I've only done the fogs so far, as I haven't had time to take apart the front end to upgrade the lights (admittedly, the stock lights on the RAM suck....).

I can speak for the RS. It’s a blast! My buddy has one and it’s nuts what it ca do lol. I wouldn’t get a reg focus or even an ST. But the RS is a serious machine

I had it done at Mr. Detail in Burlington. $999 for a multi-layer ceramic coat, with a 10 year guarantee (not that I'm likely to keep the truck 10 years).

I figured annual Krown + one-time ceramic coating were far cheaper than going the "Paint and Body Protection" that the dealership wanted to upsell me on (something like $2135 I think they wanted....).
