Hello all. First post. I'm the proud new owner of a 2015 Hemi 4x4 1500 Crew Cab Outdoorsman, with 39,000 miles on it. My previous was a 2003 4.7L 2WD 1500 Quad Cab (which had a Flowmaster clone on it). The old 2003 was still running great, but the body was just falling apart, thanks to Michigan roads and salt. That truck was very good to me over the years, so I decided just to get a newer one.

Anyways, this "new" one is way too quiet for me. I remote start it and have to put my ear up to my dining room window to make sure it's running, LOL. Being that it's low mileage and that the current exhaust system is in perfect condition, I don't want to rip it all out and do a whole cat back. So, If I buy a muffler only (thinking Magnaflow) what size inlet/oulet do I want to order? Is it 2.5" or 3"? And how do I want the inlet and outlet? Centered or offset? I already know I'll have to put a short piece of pipe in there, because aftermarket mufflers are shorter, no big deal. It's single exhaust, BTW.

Thanks everyone.

If you want perfomance and sound you will need to go with a straight-through perforated core like the Magnaflow and Borla.

You can go with a muffler and have a shop add an extension and hanger, make sure you tell them to use band clamps to prevent deformation of the factory pipe and use SS to prevent rust.
A louder but not crazy muffler is the Magnaflow 5x8 18" 3"in 3"out offset/offset part # 14264.

If you prefer to have an all SS bolt on kit, Mufflex sell one that use the same Magnaflow muffler, the DODS18.

I suggest you keep the factory resonator because it help a lot to keep the drone down. It will be louder without it, but the drone will drive you nuts.

You can go with the same muffler, but 24" long to eliminate any drone, but it wont be much louder than stock except on cold start and when you floor it. Magnaflow 14261 or Mufflex DODS24

Unfortunatly Borla doesn't make the right size for the single exit, they only have a 14" and it's way too loud (for my taste).

UPDATE:

Went to my buddy's race car fabrication shop today. Wow, was there some cool stuff there! A Twin Turbo Chevelle, a 2000hp Mustang Cobra... etc. His specialty is custom turbo installs. Anyways, he installed a 14" long Magnaflow and a 3.5" stainless tip for me, all beautifully welded, for only $250.00. It sounds perfect for me. Not too loud, just a nice rumble to it. We left the resonator alone. He asked me if I wanted it chopped off, but I said naw... we'll leave it for now.

I went with the Flowmaster hd 50 made especially for the hemi. Left resonator on and has been on truck for almost 8 years and no drone and no rust and truck is in NJ where they use a lot of salt. Single exhaust 3 inch inlet and outlet. Had same muffler on 2006 4.7. Great sound and performance. 2011 single cab, 2 wheel drive, flowmaster muffler, k and n drop in filter and superchips flashpack programmer with 392 gears truck goes [email protected] mph.

Check part number 9530560 it's an offset inlet center outlet 3 inch in and out. Got mine from Anything auto, good price and they should be able to check fit. Advance auto has them too for $179. Good luck. will have to get 3 inch extension pipe for muffler to tail pipe.

^^^This if you're looking for decent exterior volume and quiet cabin. 50hd sounds really good and so far is my favorite muffler after having tried 5-6 different ones on my truck. It has a nice aggressive deep tone when on it and quiet inside the cab while cruising.
