Hey all had some fun bringing back my 2015 Laramie paint.
So this truck I bought new in 2015 and now has 190K miles. I honestly probably never hand washed it. My daily work truck and just used the local no touch car wash. So it was way overdue. Did a three stage compound polish. First washed and clay bar. Then: 1= Chemical Guys V32. 2=Chemical guys V36. 3= Turtle wax hybrid polish and wax. Last followed up with Turtle wax hybrid spray wax. Had forgotten how dark the Blue was on my truck lol. Really brought the depth back. Impressed how well the Ram paint held up. I did not baby this truck at all, Ohio winters, many freeway miles in PA where they can use sand in winder etc. Best part my buddy just asked when I bought a new truck.

Looks great! I'm going to do thing to mine in the next few weeks. Same boat as you lol bought new in 15 and have only used the drive through no touch washes so it's LONG overdue for me too seeing as I'm from NW Ohio and this past winter was extra salty

You will love the results! Very fun and rewarding to see the truck look like new again. Only issue is now I hate when it gets dirty lol.

I have done my 2005 Roush Mustang and my 2018 Ram 2500. I like the Chemical Guys V36 and V38 but not so much the V32 and V34. Maybe I wasn't doing something right but it went on dry and clumpy and was hard to get off. I do like the MeGuiars Ultimate Compound and Ultimate Polish. They worked great. I have the full set of pads and just used a different pad with each until I got the finish I was looking for.
For prep I used the Adams Polishes Iron Remover then a synthetic clay bar then I used the Adam's Graphene Ceramic on both vehicles. Works great. I just did my annual ceramic maintenance on my Mustang but again using the Adam's Iron Remover and then after another wash I used the Adam's graphene Boost. That stuff works really nice. I did the same with my truck too minus the Iron Remover cause I ran out of it but I want to buy a gallon of the Iron Remover and re-do it. We had a professional shop coat our other 2005 Roush (both are black) and had the annual maintenance done on it last fall before we put it away for the winter but I plan to go back over it again with the Graphene Boost cause that stuff comes out so nice

This is a chart that may be helpful next time you are using a buffer on your vehicles.

I did paint correction( among other things) for4 years years in a bodyshop where I worked at in the mid 1990's. That was before they had polishers with sponge bonnets,by a few years. We used lambswool buffers on the end,of a variable speed air tool. When hand polishing we used expensive lint free paper polishing sheets. Everything I saw in your chart is true and correct. Now it's common to use micro fibre cloth instead of lint free paper cloth. We did car paint corrections all day long, everyday.Even fresh painted cars, out of the booth got paint correction for minor flaws.Sometimes that meant sanding down any orange
peel, dealing with fish eyes, inperfections, overspray etc .I am over 70 now and I was working on my truck the other day.I forgot how much of a mess compound makes, when you work in one area, and it sprays all over the place while your polishing(car, clothes, shoes, walls).I had a lot more energy in the 90's.My truck takes me about 6hours to complete the job . We (autobody shop)used the term CALIFORNIA SHINE,to give our car a glass like finish after following the process you describe.

Nowadays, the first thing I do before any paint correction is measure the depth of the paint. Sometimes the robots at the factory don't do a very good job at spraying paint or the owner of the vehicle has tried to do paint correction themselves----sometimes with 80-grit sandpaper and lots of compound. LOL--

I watched a demontration from Professional detailers from the paint manufacturer company PPG,and they were on the cutting edge(in the 90's),of automotive paint and it was Science to them. The Reps . came to our shop with the Sponge pad/ polishers (all new tech at the time),and their brand of products for paint correction. They demonstrated on a customers Corvette that was a COME BACK,from one of our paint jobs. The car had a problem, on the fender we repaired, previously, had a shadow in the blue paint,in the substrate. The owner of the bodyshop volunteered the vette,to the PPG reps. to demonstrate the new equipment and products. As we gathered around watching, his expertise and technique( we were learning something new apparently),he burned through the paint on the fender.I believe he spent 5minutes checking the paint depth beforehand..Even Monkies fall from trees,I guess. At the body shop we occassionally burned through, not often. We polished the bosses Caddy we repainted and burned through in a few spots on that too.IT HAPPENS
