Sorry brother, that mud gets everywhere. Of course, this happened to me while I was "playing" after it rained. Nothing a garden hose can't wash off. Plus, the truck is filthy anyways.

My cheap 3" black 304 SS off eBay mount to the factory holes but use metal plate with the bolts so it pulls from all the metal and uses heavy metal supports off the body mount bolts. Very solid and I'm 210lbs and everyone who gets in are usually 200lbs or more and no issues. I paid $118 shipped new, and they sent me a 2nd set bc of a small ding u can't see lol. So I have a spare whole kit if anything happens to it.

OEMs are junk for the most part. They use nurserts to attach to the flimsy rocker metal and don't even use plates. There's another thread where a guys actually fell off and pulled right out of the sheet metal. Poor guy and the OEM at the dealer is stupid $$.

I have cheapo rhinos wheel to wheels, works great. added mud flaps to the truck. the only mud or dirt it traps is what came off my boot. I've never really spent a lot on steps, yet I think they're probably as good or better than dealer crap in function. just MHO

I had Amp steps before on an F150.
Fast forward to my new Ram 3500 truck. It came with chrome Nerf bars. They suck. They suck to get into the truck and they suck even worse getting out.

I bit the bullet and put Amp steps on. I put some heavy Ram mud flaps on and it minimizes any mud and snow on the steps.

Best mod I've done on my truck.

I have a 2012 ram Laramie with factory Nerf bars that mount to the body/rocker panels & they absolutely suck! They come loose, rattle and hold snow/ice like crazy! For the last year, I have had to tighten them every few months and nobody over 180lbs uses them to climb in the truck. Also I pulled the bolts & added blue loctite hoping the would help. Recently my passenger Nerf bar won't tighten anymore at the rear door & is rattling like crazy! I'm am pulling them off the truck it's so bad, has anyone had these problems?? How do you fix it? Who doesn't mount Nerf bars to the frame???
I went with low cost chrome wraparound nerfs in 2012--see signature below. No challenge to hold my 270 lbs.
Chrome is going to start to fail after another eastern winter, but I'll just sand them and murder them black and get another 3 years.

I've never had an issue with the OEM steps on my 2011 or my 2014. That being said I'd love the amps steps, they're just not easy to do on a truck with a body lift!

*Sigh* Oh well, next truck! Lol

Why do you think that? I'd say they would actually be better on a truck witha body lift as they open lower than most static steps.

There have been a few guys who have tried to install them. Something about the install is pretty difficult, you have to do some cutting on the frame because of the body lift.

AMP says they will not fit on a truck with a body lift without modification unfortunately.

I've got a pair of 3" chrome steps for a 2010-2014 CC sitting in my garage right now that someone could buy REALLY cheap if they pay the freight. Ran them for about 2 years but still in great condition. I think they are somewhere in the For Sale section.

I was wondering do AMP steps ever get jamed up from the snow & ice?

Ice and snow doesn't affect them. You may get a stone/pebble that gets lodged in the joint /mechanism. I spray them off with the truck when I wash it.

I really want the amp powersteps. It's definitely on the list. Anyone used the Bestop version instead of the Amps?

If you research, you'll find some that have with mixed results. Don't seem to have anywhere near the AMP customer satisfaction.

I thought about buying amp steps since I have owned a set on a previous truck... but man... stomaching 1200 bucks when I got my 5 inch black set from Dee Zee for 144 bucks is not easy!

Is that a website? I've been needing some, but im not paying $800 for a plain black pair, from the dealer.
