How does the NAV feature (maps specifically) get updated?

You pay Uconnect a ridiculous fee and they send you the latest maps (which are generally a a year or more behind...). And you pay this every time you want to update, it's not a one time fee for all updates

Uconnect & Navigation are not connected in 2017
Beginning in 2018, they may have changed things

I will state that you should only upgrade the maps no more often than every 3 years or more
New roads are hardly ever built, so the only thing that changes are the Points of Interest, which may include where the new Starbucks is located

Nokia is the Mother Company of the Navigation Software
Navteq belongs to Nokia, which has a sub name of Navigation.com
HERE belongs to NAVTEQ

Chrysler Vehicle needs a name for a file, so they call it Uconnect

so to update your Ram navigation, you go to

You pay about $147 + to update your maps. Each time that you choose to update.

When they send you the address to download the info either to your computer or indirectly to a blank small empty thumb drive

At the same time, they may instruct you to go to a site to get a Radio update, which is free

I know that you did not need the background explanation

Beginning in 2018, it seems that Ram or one or more of the suppliers for the bluetooth, Free Uconnect that comes with the Ram, or the fee based Uconnect Advantage or Sirius Guardian are being switched around somewhat
It gets more confusing when it comes to Uconnect 5 in the latest Rams

It is almost like Stellantis is trying to force us to use Smart Phones
I don't need a Smart Phone & i don't want one.

My Flip phone makes & receives phone calls & i did not know it until recently, it can be used for texting, which i prefer not to use
