New 3rd Brake Light Gasket

So yesterday I took off my 3rd brake light to replace the gasket. I was fully expecting to see the cheap, open cell spongy thing that all of you have seen. But instead I foind this. I have a 2017 1500 with a date of mfr of 12-16. I'm wondering if they finally realized the gaskets they were using were complete junk or if my dealer replaced it before I bought the truck. I really doubt the dealer did it.

I brought mine in to the stealer to be fix bc it was leaking and those bastered caulk it . This was a few years ago

Looks like the crappy one i just replaced. if you have the better one from Detroit Muscle Technologies. put it on.

Bought my 17 in October of 17. About 3 weeks later had water and staining on the headliner.

Dealer fixed both issues without question, but their solution was the gasket you see on yours.

Not one to trust the same basic gasket again, I did the mod with the thicker better material gasket. Should last longer, if not forever, and I know it's fixed better than just repeating the same mistake RAM keeps making.

I know there's a few different options out there for preferred gasket but my local HD had this. Dealers half ass this job with sealants and just generally make a mess. This is the 1st thing I do on any vehicle, 3rd brake lights unanimously leak in my experience.

Just snagged a Recon 3rd brake light (gently used from eBay) and would you recommend the Detroit Muscle Tech gasket @ripping r or does anyone have additional alternatives?

I do recommend it. I was going to use the weather strip eveyone else used. but i this was seamless and 10.00 bucks shipped. it installed easy and is working great so far.

I used the home depot auto marine posted above on mine over a year ago and no leaks on mine

Mine hasn't leaked yet but I wasn't going to wait for it to start. I used the stuff from HD posted above the oe gasket was a bear to get off but I only had 9,000 miles on the truck when I did it.

I have the one-piece Detroit Muscle gasket in the mail

I hope it’s a good option...
