Hey everyone, just joined but I bought my truck back in April of this year. The truck is an 08 1500 4x4 Laramie, 5.7 hemi, auto. Bought it with just over 35k miles. Coming from a Rotrex supercharged Tacoma, I miss the speed/handling, but I love the Dodge for it's practicality, being able to tow and use the bed, etc. Speed will just get you into trouble anyway lol.

So far I have put an S&B intake on it, and completely replaced that junk factory infinity sound system, which was NOT easy. Now it has a Pioneer double din with nav, Infinity kappa 3 ways the whole way around, and Polk audio MOMO series tweeters where the factory ones were up on the dash. Center channel was just deleted. These are powered by a 500w RMS kenwood 4 channel. Also have an Alpine Type-R 10 in a Fox Acoustics ported box under the rear driver side seat. Powered by a 500w RMS Kenwood amp. Also installed a new bed cover, since as you can see in the pics, the old one was beat. I don't have pictures of any of the new stuff yet. Ill get those soon.

Now, I am having one issue with the truck. When I first got it, at idle, there was a faint "chirp" or "squeak" coming from the transmission area of the truck. It sounded almost identical to a throwout bearing chirp on a manual transmission, but its an auto so I didn't know where to even look. Then, about 3 weeks ago, the "Chirp" went away and turned into a consistant "Tick tick tick" noise. It has no drivability issues at all. Just makes that tapping sound, that is definitely coming from or very near the bell housing area. It is rpm dependant, at idle it is a slow tick sound and as the rpms go up so does the frequency of the sound. I have a powertrain warranty, and when I had the dealership that sold it to me look at it, they said it is normal but it definitely is not. It isn't obnoxious, but is definitely very annoying and something that a truck of that price range shouldn't be doing. Does anyone have any pointers as to what this could be or where to look? I will try to get a video of it when I get updated pictures of the truck soon, within a couple of days.

Anyway, sorry about the long post, but here are some pictures of the truck a few days after I got it.

Welcome to the forum.

Im not super familiar with that particular trans but is there a removable cover under the torque converter? If so, take it off and do a visual and ck the tq converter bolts. Also listen whole under it to pinpoint its origin. Be safe when doing so

Hi justin,

1) check your oil to make sure there is no coolant mixing with your oil.
2) look around the back of the junction between the block and the heads, look for a place that has different coloring, looks weird.

You are describing a blown head gasket, or another exhaust leak. If the above are OK then check your exhaust system at the donuts and at the manifolds for signs of a leak.

In any case hope you get her sorted.

I tried looking for an inspection cover to check the bolts but I didn't see one at all which was strange to me. Maybe it's there and I just can't find it lol? But I'll take another look under there to see if there is one.

The oil and coolant are completely clean, there's actually no noise at all coming from the motor, if you pop the hood while it's running the tapping sound isn't coming from under the hood. It's definitely coming from underneath, the bell housing area of the transmission, sounds more like it's coming from the driver side of it specifically.

Oh and thank you everyone for the welcomes and help

Thank you, I ended up taking it to the dealership and having them do a diagnosis and they determined the noise is normal, so I guess it's one of those things I'm gonna have to live with.

Just thought I would put up some pics of my Toyota I traded for the Ram. This thing was a damn rocket and so much fun to drive but like I said I love having the ability to tow now and more interior space.
