I've been tossing the idea around about getting a new paint job on my truck. I have a couple slight rusting spots that I want to get fixed before they become a problem, and I see a full fix and paint job as a possible option.

Anyone know how much (ballpark) this costs? I'm not sure if there are any paint shops around me thought I haven't looked. Just curious if anyone might know a price.

Anything under $1200 is a rip off. MAACO does a half way decent job but their paint does not last long. Go to some of the local shops near you and ask questions. What paint do they use? Do they computer match the factory paint? Do they have a dedicated paint booth? Do they bake the paint on or let it air dry?

If you do not like the answers to any of the above or they refuse to answer then LEAVE. A good shop will be proud of their work and will have pictures of other vehicles they have done on the walls. They may also let you check out their facilities (if their insurance allows it). Always do your research when choosing anyone that touches your ride, it will pay off in the long run.

Yeah i agree with ^^^. I have an 02 1500 and my two passenger doors and front quarter panel were starting to fade and the paint was almost completely peeled off the doors. Had a local paint shop re-paint just those and it was $500 alone, and i got a deal because my dad knew them. They used the good ppg, cut and polished it, and did a clear coat and it turned out great. I thought about just doing the whole thing but he said it would be around $2800-$3000. Don't skimp on it if you do it is my recommendation. Either get it done right or not at all imo.

I totally agree, I wouldn't get a paint job any cheaper than $3,000.00. I have a quad cab, so I would expect to pay $3,500.00 to $4,500.00 for a great paint job, staying with the current color. A color change would add about another $1,000.00 to the price.

Thanks for the info guys. I was planning on keeping the same color, just fixing up some of the body work and then the paint.

What is the best way to paint? A few ways have been mentioned but I don't really know the difference between them all.

I do have a buddy who owns a body shop with a dedicated paint booth. He did the paint on my hood a couple years ago and did a great job. I'll have to ask him some of this stuff too. To bad he's in NC :(

I went to a couple body shops by me to get a quote on my bed (just outside fenders) and was quoted $1,300-$1,500. That would be sanding down and fixing the rust, then painting truck and clear coat followed by a "free" wash. The one body shop took the time to walk me around their facility to show me everything. I didn't though ask about paint brand and drying process. So I am curious on what paint brand should I be looking for and drying process? I was told it be a week long job.

I'd imagine a WHOLE truck paint job being a lot. I contacted a guy up in North Jersey who does custom work and he said it be around $7k for his paint jobs, now that is everything (engine bay, interior, takes all panels off to paint) he does it proper. Now he can do it cheaper if you didn't want engine bay done and other ways.
