Just bought an 09 Ram 1500 2wd crew Bighorn with 33k on it. Just wanting to know if these trucks have had any problems I need to be looking out for? Or any upgrades I need to do? What gear ratios in the rear end? Thanks!

There is a recall or two, big one is differential. Take it to dealer and they will let you know for free.

What should I do first?

I'd start with a nice cat back system and tuner first... those are the most fun mods I've done over the years... the sound from the exhaust and then better driveability from a tuner... you just can't go wrong... the extra power doesn't hurt either...

oil catch can and get rid of the stock lights, they suck at night especially in the rain.

What's the best catch can and lights? What about tuner, exhaust, and intakes? What are the best?

You have an 09 so you can go with Superchips and also get the tranny tune option... or get a custom tune with a Diablo... for exhaust, I'm partial to MBRP... best sound I've heard and fit and finish cannot be beat... amazing customer service... for CAI, the Vararam seems to be the hands down best you can get... check out Moe's Performance, a site sponsor, for all these goodies mentioned...

I was thinking about just cutting the muffler off and possibly the resonators for the exhaust. Would this be a good option?

That would certainly be louder than stock...

I don't know the physics regarding back pressure and flow when it comes to exhaust systems but the manufacturers put a good amount of time and development into their systems and I'd think they would provide more of a performance gain... but I suppose it depends on what your goals are... just sound or sound and some increased horsepower... budget plays a big part... ultimately you have to be happy with your truck...

Cut the muffler but leave the resonators. It will be almost as loud with them removed, but they will help with the drone.

I wish I would've kept my resonators bc Im looking to go to a straight pipe...it will be a very nice and aggressive setup

Where I live in SC, the mds has never been activated. There's just to many hills.
So I might just have the muffler cut off and if I don't like it I will put another muffler on it. Thanks for the input!

If you do get a tuner you can use that to turn it off. I learned the hard way on my '08, I took the exhaust from my '04. Installed it drove for a day and ripped it back off

in love with my muffler delete ! when cruising down the highway there is a little bit of drone im not going to lie to ya. It is def not horrible enough to make me want to put a muffler back on. I listen to my base stereo at ( volume @ 18 ) and I cant even hear it other then road noises.

its loud on cold starts like any other truck, but once its warm its significantly quieter.

catch cans are also a great mod for these trucks to prevent oil being circulated back into the engine from the intake. they are well worth the money for the protection they provide.

other mods, all depends on what you have available to spend, or are willing to spend. trust us we can spend your money easily lol hahahahahaha.
