Hello everyone,

I have had my eyes on the Ram for a while and now it is finally time to enter the market and start looking around for my truck. I'm not new to Mopar- have a 2006 Charger R/T in my garage and I just need something that can get me around through the brutal PA winters. So I decided to go with a truck, and since I have fallen in love with my HEMI the Ram was my natural choice. Before I make the plunge I have a few questions.

How reliable are these trucks? I need something that can take my daily beating. I heard the tie rods are still an issue, but are there any other major problems?

I also will be getting the truck lifted when I get it. How easy/expensive is a good 6" lift? Anything special I need to know?

Thanks in advance for your help and I can't wait to be driving one of these bad boys:anitoof:

Thanks for the reply. That's good to hear about the tie rods, in the Charger community it's a pretty big problem. I have to have them replaced on my Charger with only 18,000 miles on it, kinda ridiculous.

I was thinking something from 2005 and up, but a good deal is a good deal.
So really any 3rd generation. How do these trucks do with high mileage? I think I just found a pretty good deal on a 2005, asking price is 12,000 but it has 140,000 miles on it.

Welcome to Ram Forum! These trucks are real Tough. I replaced my tie-rods once at 192K (KM) as a precaution only and put the Moog Problem Fixers! My only other 2 Cents/advice based on expierience is if you get a 1500 4x4 and need to replace the front 1/2 shafts do not get re'built ones as they don't last, OEM new and as for the front brakes, they will eventually get warpage/wobble after only a few K's so consider slotted/grooved rotors (not expensive). Lastly some say our Trannys don't last. I disagree. If you Avoid 2nd Gear Prime and change your tranny fluid as per Maint Schedule it will take normal abuse. I have 235K (KM) on mine and it performs like new.

EDit: Approx 140 k miles.

Thanks! What then is a good price for an 05-06? My price range cuts out around 15,000 tops, so I figure an 06 is probably the end of the line for me.

Thanks, will keep in mind. And I am pretty **** about maintenance, what's the point of spending that much money on an investment that you won't even protect? And I'm not too concerned about the brakes, like you said its nothing that some good rotors can't fix.

welcome to the site. I'm on my first Ram and I love it. I got a 2011. I'm sure this won't be my last either. I'm on my third dodge.

I wish I could get a 2011:( Saw a couple the other day and I was envious. The next NEW dodge I'm getting will be a Challenger SRT8, that's why I need the truck. I swear when I bought my Charger I had no clue what I was getting myself into, now I've caught Mopar fever and shudder at the thought of getting anything else.

here's a nice one

Dodge : Ram 1500 - eBay (item 170597990512 end time Feb-08-11 01:00:00 PST)

I tend to look at eBay......just go give me an idea.

Yeah that is pretty much what I'm looking for, too bad I have to wait until march though. I've got my eye on a couple of black 2005's over here too. The wait is just killing me so I'm just doing my best to get it all figured out before I get the truck so I get exactly what I want when I do get it. There's an SRT10 Rumble Bee for sale in my area, its like 25,000 though so a little out of my range:(
