New to R/F and Need Level Reccomendation

Mornin Guys and Gals,

Well I am not new to the forum world, but I am to RF. I purchased my new 2012 Ram Express CC 2wd last month and I love it. Ready to mod the **** out of it. I bought it pure stock, 20in alloy, hemi, with 7,*** on odo

Background: I am coming from the car world. I had a previous Nissan S14 240sx with a SR20DET in it and then a Twin Turbo BMW 335i.. Then was ready for a change. Was not interested in a truck until I found this beast. I fell in love with it the moment I test drove it and am super happy with my decision. I will post a pic when I get a chance


I have already purchased and Installed a Mufflex dod14m to spruce the sound up a bit from the reviews I found creeping around this forum. Future mods

Question to the Lift and Level guys.

1. Anyone have suggestions on a level for the 2012 Ram 2wd CC? I was looking at HBS or Rouch Country-- But what size? 2.5" or 2"? Any Reccomendations on what fits well? Pics? Pointers?

2. If I wanted a couple inch Body lift without a kit, is it wise to get a level in the front and spacers in the back? Or does that not work?


Any info would be great or experience.

Welcome to RF. When it comes to leveling kits it seems like every truck has a slightly different stance. Best way to check is to take some measurements on level ground from the top of the fender well to the ground. Then do a little bit of math to choose the kit that will put you closest to level.

Welcome to RF. There is a lot of info and suppliers here to get you set up.
You just have to decide what height you want your truck to sit at.

If your not sure how high, maybe find a truck you like and measure it and yours.
Then the rest is hard.

If you want it to sit perfectly level, measure it out & see what the difference is and then buy your leveling kit accordingly. I went with the Bilstein 5100s due to the fact that they are adjustable from stock ride height all the way up to 2.8" and Bilstein is known for making great products. I set mine at 2.1" (which is the second highest setting) and now it sits almost level. I like a VERY slight bit of "rake", thats why I didn't set it at 2.8". If you set it at 2.8", you will most likely want to raise the back up an inch as well. Unless you like the baja/Cali sag look!

Thanks for the input-- Measuring the distance of the setting of my truck I'm looking at either a 2" or possibly 2.5" to level it out. Maybe 2" to keep a little rake in the front

Is there any negatives with leveling? Tire rubbing? suspension or coil damage? Related with a Level kit? I'm assuming that alignment is going to be needed too

You shouldn't have any negative results if it's installed correctly and you get an alignment done afterwards. I have heard of guys having vibrations when the truck is in 4x4 due to the CV angles, but mine doesn't do it & neither did any of my past trucks. I have done the 2-2.5" "puck" style leveling kits in the past and I would say that the Bilstein 5100 shock set up is a much more impressive. The quality of the product, ease adjustability from stock-2.8" (before its installed), and overall ride quality seems to be better that the set ups I had in the past. You shouldn't have any rubbing issues with stock wheels and tires.

I know the feeling of the rookie questions... I do it too! But if you don't ask, you take the risk of screwing something up or wasting $$$$!!! No Bueno!

We're all rookies at some point, so no worries. Honestly the best info I got was from the Hell Bent Steel website FAQ section. That is was gave me the confidence I needed to order the kit. Yes you'll have to get an alignment. I've got nearly 18000 miles on mine with no issues at all.

Hey man, welcome to the forum! I just received my Rough Country 2.5" leveling kit. I'm putting it on Monday, so as soon as I get it installed I will post pictures for you to see the before and after. I measure my truck today and if I measure correctly I think I am still going to have around an inch of rake to my truck. I'm not going to install the 1.75" lift for the rear, only the 2.5" for the front. I'll let you know!

welcome to rf. doing a brief reading of this thread i think a lot of the responses were based on assuming you have 4wd which you don't. Level kits at different for the two and your options for manufactures is a little more limited.
